So many colors to choose from yet so few stand out

Covington, TN

« on: July 20, 2018, 05:44:12 AM »

Every Thursday evening it's bike night at Rose and Jim's bar and grill, just north of Lexington on SR 25.   Normally there's a live band (way too loud for my taste) and a whole herd of hogs.

Last night, four fat ladies brought some class to the event.   We got a lot of the expected attitude of being ignored at first but gradually, "they" started the normal walk around looking at all the different rides that showed up.    We just sat at our table and watched.    The side car rig ended up getting a lot of attention, no doubt.  She always does.   We all parked side by side.  We observed as "they" went from one to another, looking and pointing but never touching.  Many spent a lot of time with our fat girls.  We never said a word, just observed.  It was fun.

Actually had one lady come over and asked about mine, that made me smile,  She took a picture (selfie) of us.   Interesting event.  Looking forward to repeating the opportunity.

I love it when the HD boys try so hard to look without looking interested or show any approval whatsoever 2funny

Made mention of this before but when I have my Phatt Ghurl all simonized up and when some of the H/D faithful ask questions 9 times outa 10 they have to look at the vin plate cuz they do NOT believe me when I tell em how old she are. And for half of em I gotz ta turn on the ignition cuz they no believe how many miles she's got. THEN try to splain DDT's miles to em!  2funny But truth be knowed-me personally-wouldn't have it any other way!  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

Yep, that's always fun.   As we left, we all started at the same time, four fat ladies roared to life at once.   I was looking at the crowd, there wasn't a single head that didn't turn and watch us leave.

I suppose there may have been comments about those Jap bikes but it doesn't matter, we were all smiles.   smitten

The picture was for the "Warning" posters identifying the interlopers.

I did a charity ride last weekend. A few non-Harleys. A few. Well, I got a bunch of "What the hell IS that?", mostly from the younger HD faithful. I also enjoyed telling them that it was 20 years old. "Really???  When do you have to go through the engine?". Me: "You don't."

While that is a possibility, I don't think so.    If'n I was smart enough to post pics here, I'd share the pic.  Unfortunately, I ain't that smart.   crazy2

I do not get a lot of looks on my quiet all black I/S even when cleaned up,  but when I fire up the 98 cobra exhaust LOUD one with chrome do-dads,  people always LOOK my way, especially if I keep the rpms up and the gears LOW.  Horn does not work so if I need to,  I put in the clutch and rev the snot out of it to get someones attention does a more effective job... Roll Eyes

I had a guy follow me some 20 miles on the hwy. pulling up to the same gas station in my hometown and  he was shocked to find out is 20 years old and in somewhat still decent shape.  He liked the paint scheme and asked a few more questions before pulling away him also pumping gas.  I do not think he needed much gas though for I filled up the normal 3-4 gallons and he was done well before me.

This follow guy mentioned above happened earlier this week, but a few weeks ago a newer ducati (I think??) let me catch up to him doing near 70 mph on rural hwy. and waited for me at the rural stop light some 20 seconds before I came up next to him.  I think he wanted to race.  I took off first but decided after 60 mph was not worth a ticket so let him go ahead of me, but I was always behind him doing near 70 mph.  I felt like racing but in my older age, I decided the risk is not worth the reward.  Am sure he would have beat me anyways being an old heavy cruiser vs. a newer fuel injected 1000cc on up lightweight bike that am sure costs well over 2 or 3x's the cost.

I was parked next to a HD and leaving a restaurant at the same time.  The husband was doing his best to ignore me when his wife asked me several questions about my bike.  She didn't know what that thing was ( referring to the engine )  and explained the difference between a V- twin and a flat six.   Her husband didn't say a word but I really enjoyed that exchange.

I rode to softball Thursday nite. After the game, the 3 HD guys stood off a ways and talked among themselves about the rice burner that showed up. Nothing bad, but they wouldn’t walk up to it.
But, as I packed up my stuff, 2 wives with little kids walk over, ooh & aah a bit. I offer the kids to sit on her and mom can get a pic. Kids loved it, got their pics and they all thanked me.
HD guys never approached, must be against their rules...  Roll Eyes
