It only took me (almost) 18 years as a single Valk owner to finally acquire my second one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lD_ag67tH3I

Thanks again 3Fan4Life! Hope you enjoy the ST and have a safe ride home! (How ya' like the weather down here? Wink  )

Brian Jr. (My little motorcycle nut kiddo) rushed out to inspect it as soon as we got home.

He's trying to convince me he's big enough, he's pretty sure he can ride this one now.

Old lady, meet the new lady, new lady, meet the old lady...

It's a tight squeeze, but managed to get all 3 bikes, 2 cars, push mower, riding mower, generator, etc. etc. etc all shoe-horned into the garage... Not much room to walk but it's all in there!

Now the fun begins, time to start making her mine, getting to know her, etc. etc. etc...

(Oh, and I do NOT recommend cross country riding when the official temperature is 109! After the first 50 miles I started shivering and felt cold, knew that wasn't good so stopped and sat in a McDonalds drinking ice water and cooling off, had to stop and repeat that every 30 miles the rest of the way home, but made it safely.)

Elder spawn rode with me to do the swap, 3 hours on the back of the ST1300 she was VERY ready to get back on a Valk, and is definitely a fan of the Interstate's back seat!

Looks like some of the clear coat came off the fairing other than that she looks really good.  cooldude

Took me 12 years to get my second.

Is that a blue/cream tourer?

If so, you have my exact 2 bikes as well all black I/S and blue/cream 98 tourer....

good choices!!!! and congrats!!!!!

I also agree on cosmetics since both of my bikes look mint from 10 feet away, but if get up close,  not so much.  Good enough for me so if I get a few more scratches/dents, etc. I do not get ticked off nearly as much as say getting my first scratch in a new vehicle.

I think you need 2 more cycles though like I have, but then, NO cars would fit in a std. 2 car garage, only lawn mowers and such....   Cry Cry Cry Cry

Keep them and in a few more years,  the youngens will be able to ride them, right???   Roll Eyes

I let my 17 year old drive them all except my black I/S.  He does not like all the gadgets nor fairing thinking it is an old man's bike setup, which I am, well sort of...  He also does not like driving the 250cc scooter but has on occassion, but not more than just a few times is all, being too slow and not COOL enough of a ride....   His main ride of which he bought for 4K being a mint condition 2005 yamaha fjr1300 with 17K miles just a few months ago has me thinking I need to sell the nice conditioned 1997 honda 750cc magna with 26K miles on it with newer tires/chain/sprockets that just sits there NOT riding all summer long....

I'm glad that you're happy with Her.

She's been a very good girl for me.

I'm still working on getting back home with the ST, I have about 300minutes left.

You'll have to let me know what you think of that particular CT, since I have nothing to compare it to.

Appreciate the offer, but when (Not if, when) I replace the seat, it'll be for an aftermarket. Love my Hartco on my tourer, need to research more on Interstate aftermarket seats (Backrest is a MUST!)

Good choices indeed! My original Valk is a 1998 Blue and Ivory standard that I've set up as a tourer; she's served me well these last 18 years!

The elder spawn, at 15, is taking her motorcycle safety course next weekend, the 250CC scooter is for her. If she gets enough experience with it, she's hoping she can ride one of the Valks to Inzane next year, she REALLLLLLY wants that "Youngest rider" award!

I'm glad that you're happy with Her.

Glad to hear you should be outta the worst of the heat by now, lemme know once you're home. Hoping the ride has been only as exciting as you want it to be! So far I like the tire, or rather, I haven't noticed anything about it good or bad, which is usually a good sign. But until I get a real license plate on her I  won't be riding her much, gonna try to get that handled tomorrow. Wish me luck, I HATE dealing with government bureaucracy!
Hope you're enjoying STella! She's gonna LOVE those roads by you, she'd been bored mostly sitting with an occassional high speed freeway run the last few years, be nice to let her strut her stuff some!

I am not so sure a 110lb. daughter (just a guess on weight) should be riding an 800lb. bike?  Then again,  they all told me my now 17 year old boy at 165lbs. should not be starting age 16 on the 1997 honda magna 750cc too much bike for him which it was not.

I may suggest a lighter bike though since 1520cc and 800lbs. is not a starter bike even from going from a 250cc scooter.    Too bad TX from WI is too far since the 1997 honda magna nicely equipped with 26K miles might be for sale later this summer...   I think is the perfect starter bike not too tall nor too heavy and not for much of anyone over 6 feet tall though unless modified seat put back further.  it will keep up no problems with our 1520cc valks and probaby beat it off the line as well up to say 50-60 mph.

Everyone told me 500cc on down to start for him, but I started out on a 550cc then to a 700cc and was fine with both would be bored in NO time on a 250cc engine not powerful enough nor fast enough for me.

While one generally doesn't discuss a female's weight, Kali is over 6'1", closing in quickly on 6'2"...

But yes, I'm very conscious of her needing a LOT of experience before taking off on a cross country road trip on a Valk. Unlikely she'll be riding it to Inzane next year unless it's exceptionally close, but she really wants to.

It's a balancing act between encouraging her to share in my passions, and encouraging her to be safe...

My petite wife wanted a better starter bike than the 20yo CM 250 I got her.

We can afford something nicer than that, why?

Because you are going to drop it, and we are not going to care about it.  But the good news is, all your drops are going to happen at stops, slow speed or slow turns, and I don't want you to try to save it either, I want you to just jump off and let it smack the ground.

And she did, several times.

Getting this older bike was a good idea after all.

Yep, and when you master it, we'll see about moving up to something nicer (bigger).

Didn't see any relief from the heat until yesterday and that came in the form of rain.

No mishaps, but some of the cities were an experience for sure.

She did try to step out on me on an on ramp in Knoxville, TN but all she managed to do was get my immediate attention.

The roadway was wet so I'm not entirely sure if it was her, me or the road surface but the rear end did break loose a little bit.

As far as speed,  I think that she enjoyed getting to stretch her legs.

She saw > 100mph about 4 times on the return trip.

3 of which were unintentional,  running along at 80-85 it only takes a small throttle increase to be over 100.

I took a detour through Pigeon Forge, TN for some lunch yesterday and went out a back road that I know and played in a few small twisties.

She's really going to like the ones in Virginia!

Ross-da prez-couple years ago got hold of a Strawberries and Cream standard I believe. Very responsive and Very fast. Dude bitched and moaned he was over 21 and could buy any cursed thing he wanted. Except this was his FIRST M/C and my Brother told him flat out-a Valkyrie is NOT a starter bike. You really Need some time and experience Before throwing a leg over this M/C. Consequently he did NOT sell it to him. I can attest to how FAST that particular Valkyrie was!  Roll Eyes It would uncage yer eyeballs when you grabbed a handful!  cooldude Haven't met you Yet Serk but just from your posts you seem to have your entire families best interests at heart. Every one of us here on this board KNOW'S what it takes to properly handle a Valkyrie. I just KNOW you won't turn her loose til she's ready!  coolsmiley Even if it takes her turnin 35!  Roll Eyes RIDE SAFE.

Glad to hear you made it home safely!

She may or may not have cruised along around 110 for a bit on her last ride under my stewardship with the spawn on the back. But you saw the Texas back road speed limits, that's not quite as much of a stretch as it would be elsewhere... Wink

She definitely likes the twisties, here's a pic in front of the Luckenbach, TX Post Office from a hill country ride the spousal unit and I did right after we bought the ST.

And a trip to the infield of Texas Motor Speedway (Didn't get to ride the bike on the track, had to settle for a ride along in an IROC car that day)

And Bid Bend National Park

That was the trip we accidentally rode into Mexico...

Anyway, sorry for the pic dump, caught me reminiscing, and thought you might enjoy a few pics of the bike's history while I had 'em dug up... Smiley

As of this morning the Interstate is officially a Texan, got her title transfer paperwork submitted, registered, fresh new Texas license plate and all that... Fun times, fun times... They did accept our mutual bills of sale referencing it was an even trade and didn't charge me any sales tax. Woot!

Definitely... I'll probably be cutting her loose quicker than her mommy is comfortable with, but not until I'M convinced she's at least ready to start on a Valk.

I can't say much, the Valk was only my 2nd street bike, and the only before that was a Yamaha XS11 Special I'd ridden for about a year.

Kali will do fine on the standard.  The Interstate is way too top heavy for a new rider.

Of course you know... lots of low speed parking lot drills.

Yup... but first she's gotta get through the MSF course, get her license, we've gotta get the old Helix running right, and she's gotta spend some serious time on it before we even consider letting her loose on a Valk (Especially MY Valk!)

It's the circle of life, motorcycle edition... Pic of her on the Helix when we first got it, before we sold it to my dad (Who just gave it back to us expressly for Kali to learn on)

80 - 85 is the "natural" cruising speed for an ST. Keep an eye on your speedo at all times.

At 17,( 5’10 150lbs), my first street bike was a ‘77 Kawasaki KZ 1000 with Fairing and saddlebags. I wouldn’t worry much about a 750.
