Barring any unforeseen setbacks, I feel bringing her home now is best. She was weighed a couple days ago, now down to 76lbs. from 81-82 when first admitted to the nursing home for rehab. Her hip has healed but still a lot of pain, barely able to walk some with a walker and assistance. Hard to watch.

Pete

Hope all goes well, you deserve some good luck.
Bust wishes and prayers.

Flrider

Glad to hear she is almost home and hope the pain will be gone as she keeps recovering

Well, John, I hope you'll have some help when she gets home. Being the sole caregiver is noble, but it's easy to get overwhelmed. At least a nurse visit every day or so?

Prayers for her recovery and less pain, as well as your strength. As you already said, it's not easy watching a loved one in pain. Wears on your soul.

Grumpy

Be good to get her home, mine improved a lot just by coming home. Still keeping both of you in our prayers.

Life is like a hot bath. It feels good while you're in it, but the longer you stay in, the more wrinkled you get.

Prayers for both of you for quick progress

Can you cook?.......... ;D
Happy to hear of the progress. Tell her way to go from Lesa and I ! Oh, and you too!

Home is the place to be and I hope things run smoothly for you and her healing goes well

My Mother had a fall from a second story balcony (Lucky to be alive) so she had my father looking after her and it took it out of him too, not that he would ever admit to it but you could see it so we all pitched in all we could, so look after yourself as well.

It's now the end of winter over here so 6 months down the track she has been feeling the pain, we got her a mini infrared sauna and that has really helped (not that its cold over there ATM)

All the best :)

John did you get miss Rita home?
Yes, she was back home by midday Tuesday. She wanted to lay down for a while in her own bed so rolled her straight back there. Got her settled in and checked on her a short time later and it was ZZZZZ! Later when she woke up I could tell she was much more content, more relaxed. I had to get up with her twice during the night to help with the bathroom, finally just got out the bedside commode and was a lot easier for her. Home health services is coming by today to get her set up with more physical therapy, she wants to get more mobile and that will only come with more strength. Her Parkinsons has become her biggest detractor, affecting her coordination to a great extent so mobility will still be limited.

We were gifted a new wheelchair rather than have one furnished by Medicare and only while she's undergoing therapy. Still trying to come up with a wheelchair ramp/platform for the front door/porch, so far commercial estimates have been in the $1600 range....too pricey. Might just build one....really need another project. NOT!  ;D

As I was wheeling her out to the kitchen for breakfast, she told me she'd give $50 for some scrambled eggs and toast like I used to make for her....that plus some home brewed coffee that's HOT! So, after whipping it all up for her I said OK...where's my $50. "Put it on my tab!" Still has that sense of humor.  :cooldude:

Sure am happy to hear that Rita is home. I'm betting she is much more at ease in familiar surroundings.

Yes, and strangely enough I slept quite well last night also. Could it be that extra warm body made a difference? Today while walking with her into the bathroom, I was supporting her by holding on to her waist band. She asked what I was doing so told her it was to steady her walking a bit while she used the walker. When asked what happens if she trips, I told her she was in for a super wedgie. Her walking improved!  ;D

Understand that I don't do this on my own power, I'd fail miserably. Six years ago next Monday I was discharged after 5 weeks in the hospital following a heart attack I wasn't expected to live through. My wife was told to gather the family which she did, but 24 hrs. later I was breathing on my own. Then 48 hrs. later my kidneys kicked in and according to my oft times eloquent daughter Toni....I started "pissing like a race horse" while still in a coma. When I left the hospital, even with her limited mobility my wife cared for me 24/7. I can do no less, that's what we signed up for 24 years ago when we said our "I do's" in front of a waterfall in Glacier Nat'l. Park.  :smitten:

John, although I already know you'll say otherwise, you are indeed an example for all that care to get to know you. Viv and I will keep praying for you. Care-giving is not easy, but its really all we can do for those that we love.

We're caring for my 95 year old Mom, and Viv's brother in New Smyrna has Parkinsons. It's tough to see how they are both declining. Loving them both is a really big boost to them both, as is your love and care for Rita. We love you and wish you the best.
The key thing is to wake up breathing! All the rest can be fixed. (Except Stupid - You can't fix that)

Thanks everyone, currently I'm filling out papers for what's called "Aid & Attendance" through the VA. We'll have to put out a few hundred $$ the first couple months which we have to do anyway for private help, then the VA picks it up from there. As I understand it, it can be as much as six days/week all day if needed, or I can request the hours to be split up in a fashion to meet our needs. That said....I might actually be able to get out for a lunch ride periodically, go back to the gym or a round of golf, just anything to get out of the house. In the mean time, I'm grabbing 40 as often as possible to make up for lost sleep during the night when I have to help with bathroom issues a few times. My youngest turns 50 next month on the 5th, I'd love to find someone to come live with Rita for about five days so I could fly up to Green Bay and surprise her. She's planning a "nifty 50" party so would be kinda fun to work with her hubby and kids and just walk in on her. Have to see how it works out.  :cooldude:

Pappy!

Way to go, John.
Hoping things go as smoothly as they can for the both of you!
