 Shocked Shocked Shocked
Used to be they were a good source of quality used parts at somewhat reasonable prices.

Not so much anymore.  Sad

$900.00 for a set of bags.

$500.00 for the bag hardware.

$700.00 for a set of pipes.

I understand it's a risk to buy and part out a bike, but I'll bet they don't pay a lot for the donors.

I guess the good news is my parts inventory is increasing in value. Smiley

There are folks that are just discovering the Valkyrie and they are finding them at all different stages in the bikes life and need parts. Remember the that a good deal is a price both the buyer and the seller agree to.  A guy has wanted a Tourer more than air and he finds a perfect Standard...$1600 and he has a perfect Tourer, or most of the way there. I hope I dont ever want saddlebags that bad...

I'm with you on that RDKLL, just don't see why they think a used tach is worth more than a new one. uglystupid2

It's not so much Pinwall but the market direction.

Valkyrie (classic Valkyrie) parts are increasing in rarity and increasing in demand, most especially for those items no longer available new.

As for the price of wrecked Valkyries to part out, they are expensive.  I was talking to a friend in the salvage business, motorcycle salvage business.  He used to occasionally get in a Valkyrie and I would pick over it.  Not so anymore.  He told me the price has gone so high on wrecked Valkyries that he is hard pressed to get his money back on them let alone make a legitimate profit.

Incidentally, I don't consider $900 for a set of bags that far off.  A used bag in fair condition I would expect to be worth $400.

That makes sense. What I don't understand is why the price of non-wrecked Valkyries seems to be dropping. Or, at least they seem to be. I don't follow the prices that close.

Age and the perceived availability of a more up to date replacement.

Back around the mid to late 2000s used saddle bags, just the bags in good condition, went for 900-1000 dollars. Complete with mounting hardware, $1,150 to $1,300. I picked up a complete set, of Interstate bags and hardware for $ 500.00. They came from a trike shop. The bike had been rear ended. The lower bottom rear edges of both bags had been repaired and primered. It cost me another $525 to have the bags color matched to the bike. The saddle bag rear stays were ever so slightly tweaked. Scratched up bags and lids were only a couple hundred dollars cheaper. At that time the bags and mounting hardware  were still available from Honda although colors were limited. The Valk being only a 5 year run and a small run at that and out of production for 17 years, decent quality tanks ,fenders, side covers and bags are now being priced at unobtaineom prices.

I would hope not Carl since that's what I payed you for the bags and brackets off of your IS all those years ago....lol. You gave me a fare deal. Only cost me another 500 to get them painted to match.

With that said. I think pinwall is high on some parts. I had to find a pair of rotors for Ron's bike this week. Found a pair of used ones on Ebay for 85 bucks. Pinwall wanted at least that for one rotor. Now granted new Honda rotors are 190 each.

I have spent quite a bit of time making my Standard into a Tourer, and I can attest that new and used parts are very expensive. Often times used parts in rough condition are only a couple hundred of dollars less than buying brand new.

For a bit of advice I was able to acquire many parts just through relationships. Make it known on the forum what you are looking for. For me Facebook was mostly a waste of time. I'd ask for something specific, and I would get 400 responses of useless garbage. I did however find a couple of nuggets on FB, so...

I wanted to do the work I did to my bike now fearing parts are only going to get more expensive and harder to find. So I got while the gettin was (not good but) possible.
