Any day that you ride is a good day!

Moneta, VA

« on: August 09, 2018, 06:50:45 PM »

Managed to get out for a little riding both Sat and Sun.

I headed out on the ST1300 to ride some of my familiar stomping grounds.

At my first stop on Sat I saw a pair of unusual bikes:

Am I the only one that didn't know Husqvarna made motorcycles?

From there I rode my favorite mountain in the area:

Snowden Mountain is just plain fun!

I made 4 passes back and forth across it until the brakes were so hot and faded that I couldn't do it anymore.

After moving on I took a little River Road diversion:

The structure behind the bike is a river lock from the 1700's.

From there I headed to ride one of the most scenic roads in VA.

SR 39 from Lexington, VA to Goshen, VA.

I took a little detour to get a pic in front of this old store:

Here is a screenshot from the War of The Worlds movie with Tom Cruise, this is the same store:

The Maury River was running pretty strong:

In Goshen I decided to check out this old bridge, it turns out that it was built in 1890:

I took a leisurely ride along SR 42 and US 220 on the way home.

A friend and I had plans to go for a ride after church on Sunday so I rode.

On the way to church I picked up an unexpected passenger:

After church we hit the twisties criss crossing back and forth along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

This is the view from the Visitor's Center at the top of Afton Mountain:

We rode the BRP from it's beginning @ MM 0 back to Roanoke.

Raven's Roost Overlook:

WigWam Falls @ MM 34:

The weather was perfect and it was nice to get in some much needed Wind Therapy.

She's SO glad to see she's getting the crap flogged outta her, in a good way! SO glad to see she's being ridden, on some good roads, she LOVES to get ridden, and was being neglected to much here...

I saw Huskies race motocross in Kansas in 1968. They've been around for many years.

Good report....... I had a neighbor growing up.....married to my high school english teacher.....had two Huskies and he would let me take one out with  him and ride in the dirt. Very powerful machines. This was in the early 80's had a blast on that bike.

I remember being at our practice track on the Enoree River and getting
off my TM125 and getting onto Tony Water's Husky for a few laps...

I was surprised later to find out that Husky made stuff other than motorcycles  Smiley ...

Mark,

You are one lucky sumbitch to have all that beautiful riding right in your own backyard.....

As far as Huskys, they were the beasts of the 70's...along with Maico and others...
