College football is unpaid, except for academic scholarships, and you'd really have to be an idiot to lose your scholarship (a likely result of kneeling in college).... and a potential NFL career.

Once you're a millionaire NFL guy, you can apparently kneel all you want.

This is actually a bit ironic as we all know universities have always been viewed as the heart of the liberal, bleeding left, and the NFL all-American (until lately).

(Not trying to make this political, just saying).

Vols for the SEC
Hawkeyes for the Big 10

Two teams I like to follow. I wasn't a Hawkeye fan until I got to experience a night game at Kinnick Stadium when I lived in Dubuque. Probably the best atmosphere of a sporting event I have been too.

Reb,
I don't know about the VOL's,
But I will bet you a beer that the badgers finish ahead of Iowa.
The badgers are going to be extremely tough again this year. They only lost 5 or 6 starters from last year.

Question for college football fans.

Do college ball fans generally follow a team because it's their alma mater, or some other reason?

I've never really gotten into college ball, but from what I have seen, it looks pretty good.

I think the most rabid fans are alma mater. Some of the Art Mann Presents shows are pretty wild partying. ( but I wouldn’t know anything about that, I wasn’t smart enough to go)  Undecided

I pull for the Blue big time and also MSU.  Always a tough game for me to watch when they play each other.

Yeah, I know.  I pull for the Wolverines and Spartans (and Big Ten) against everyone, but Blue before Green.

Funny thing though, on rare occasions, if a team gets a bad call against them (or bad luck), or bad conduct by my team (pretty rare), I can switch allegiance mid game.  It's the old root-for-the-underdog mentality.  The teams I played on were nearly always the underdog, and you don't forget.  Our best seasons were when we went .500.

I'm glad college ball doesn't allow too much celebration in the end zone or other look-at-me behavior.  That disgusts me (it's a team sport).  When I scored a touchdown, I put the ball down (or handed it to the ref), and hustled back to the bench.  Our coach always said... when you score, act like you've done it before.

It was hard not to cheer our field goal kicker though, poor guy only made 2 or 3 FGs a season. Grin  Opposing teams always wondered why we went on 4th down so much inside the 25.  A first down was better than a FG hitting the back of the center's head.

But no one else could do any better.

PS:   I can't tell you how bad I want to beat Notre Dame.   Evil

Next to college football, I’ve become a big fan of the local high school football team in Greeneville TN.

Currently ranked #1 4A in TN. Quarterback recently committed to West Point. He had the option for the Naval Academy. He is only 5’9 and built like a brick shithouse. Great scrambler, so I think he will do well in Army’s old school style offense. Seems to be a pretty humble kid from what I’ve heard.

Its is, anytime I ride through a small town there are always folks at the 4 ways or traffic lights asking for donation for peewee football leagues. I'm usually open to donating a few bucks anytime I run into them. I think its better for kids to get out and play sports rather than sit inside and play video games. I hope a few bucks gets an under privileged kid a chance to be apart of something he might enjoy.

While I do have certain collegiate teams I pull for, I could never put politics aside.
The politicians we elect are a direct reflection of where this country is headed and, I love this country and our Constitution more than any sports team and definitely care about this nation's future.   It's all about priorities.

With that said, I'm generally an SEC fan but always pull for the Big Blue Nation.   Go CATS!
