Speedo

Well my trip out west in may was great but aboit half way thru the trip my speedo stopped working . . .
Not a big deal ive got a spare cable in the saddle bag . . . .with i bit of cussing in a dollar general parking lot i got the new cable on and heading westward . .  Well speedo still didnt want to work . . .
So fast forward a month ago or so i decided it must be the pickup deal at the tire . . . So i replaced it . . .
Took a piece of the old broken cable and put in on my drill and used it to "check" the guage part and the needle took off like i assumed it should . . .so while putting the pickup on i spin the tire the deal spins like it should and the cbles new but it still doensnt wanna work it actually moves to about 25 MPH and then drops out
Or stays at that speed . . . What am i missing ? ? ?
Everything seems to work by itself but not together . .
Also tire on, cable on, but not hooked to guage spin tire and top end of cable also spun . . .
Must be something in the guage ?! Any way inside there to look or repair?!
