Converting a PDF file.

I scanned a paper I wrote many years ago for an assignment in a composition class. It went into the computer as a PDF file and is under the MS Edge system where it doesn't show when using Google Chrome to send an email with it as an attachment. It also doesn't show in Chrome when I go to upload it to PostImage. The only place it shows is in Edge which I have no use for anyway. I'd love to convert it to MS Word but can't do it without buying that particular program. It's not worth it to me since I simply would use it more than once in maybe ten years....current situation is the first in as many years. When I look in G Chrome, it will be listed with that little "e" for Edge and can be opened, but it opens in Edge. How do I get around it? I can open it with Adobe Reader but that's abou it. How can I go about changing the extension so it's not in Edge? That's a system I never use.

If you right click on the file you should see an "Open With" option.

If you click "Choose Another App" then Chrome should be one of the options, as well as an option to "Always use this app to open .pdf files"

Unless you ran some OCR on the original scan, converting it to Word format probably would just have it as an image, not as actual text. The PDF is most likely just an image of the paper, not raw text that could be readily converted to a word processor format.

Never ask a geek 'Why?',just nod your head and slowly back away...

Thanks Serk, I got disgusted with myself shortly after posting and went back to the Edge file to look at the properties.....again. That's when I noticed the very thing you pointed out and it came out fine. I must have looked at the properties a half dozen times and for some reason that never dawned on me, today has been a rather emotional time so probably not thinking straight. You'll understand that comment in my next post if I can get it working right again.  :cooldude:

Well nuts, tried to upload a PDF file to Postimage and it won't work. Now what....am I going to have to retype the item I scanned so as to post it on here?

That doesn't bode well, got me worried now... Hope all is well...

Not to worry, my youngest just turned 50 yesterday and it's just "dad being dad."   ;)

You might export it and save as a jpeg, then it should work in postimage I would think.

John, is the original hand-written or typed?  If typed I may be able to convert the scanned file to Word and send it back.  If that may be helpful, send it to the e-mail address in my profile.

I spent a few minutes and just typed it out in Word. It's posted in my other notes under My baby turned 50.
