Weren't quite as noisy as a flight deck during launch or recovery but it IS NOISY. I was actually in the stands at The Milwaukee Mile and got to see and hear the S T P Turbine car of Granatelli run there. Towards the end of the season they instituted a rule change for the turbines by severely restricting the intake size effectively killing them off.    One year I got to see and hear-Milwaukee-an Arfons Green Monster jet car do a demo run down the front straight. Barely touched afterburner do to length limitations of the front straight cuz the car wasn't built to turn.  RIDE SAFE.
