Unsure if anyone posted here about it before, but just watched this really cool documentary about the
Isle of Man Tourist Trophy: "TT Closer to the edge"
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1698010/

The TT is the most dangerous motorsport competition in the world, it seems that in the last 111 years over 257 riders died while competing. To have an idea how insane that is, that is over 1 death per mile in the Senior category (236 miles).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isle_of_Man_TT#Race_schedule

Since I learned about the Isle of Man a couple years ago, I have being fascinated by the super human skills and sheer gut-ness required to race it.

The documentary tells a bit about the history of the competition and the competitors of the 2010 edition, while following the story of a newcomer (Guy Martin, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Martin) in his first try at the competition as a pro.

The footage and sound are amazing and the movie allows to have a human connection with the amazing people competing and their reasons to risk their lives in the toughest and deadliest motorcycle race in the world.

Guy Martin is the kind of guy (no pun intended) whose simplicity and good heart makes him the favorite underdog in the competition.

Caveats: unfortunately this documentary was never released in the USA, I learned about it thanks to a co-worker from Cambridge (UK) that mentioned it. The second potential issue is that everyone doesn't speak 'American', but 'British/scotish/etc' instead.
 Grin

The final caveat is that it is available as blueray on Amazon, but it is region 'B' (Europe), so probably won't work in our yankee blueray players (unless you have a region unlocked player). I really wanted to have the blueray, the footage is amazing.

That being said, where there is a will, there is a way. It is available on youtube for free (recommend to watch in full HD i.e. 1080p) in a bigger screen:

Conclusion: just watch it. It makes any biker's heart pump faster.

The fastest and most dangerous of races on two wheels that have been going on now over 100 years.
I find it remarkable that the course and race configuration has remained essentially the same since it's inception.  There is no other place like it in the world for sportbike racing.

One of my first purchases when(?) I win the lottery will be to secure a half dozen tickets, airfare, and rooms for a week of being part of the sights and smells of race days at the Isle of Man in June of every year.
What a rush that would be.

Until then, the Velocity Channel broadcasts the races yearly and I guess that will have to do.  It is covered  with cameras everywhere on the course, above the course, and onboard the bikes.  Fantastic views.

The audio engineer who captured all of that beautiful engine/exhaust/shifting deserves a tip of the cap. cooldude

Michael Dunlop simply the best on that race course over the past 10 years.
