Coming home from Columbus last night around 8PM on I-71 in the car, we were "surprised" by a truck heading north in the southbound lanes.  Guy was really moving.  Fortunately not a lot of traffic.  Checked with the Ohio State Highway Patrol today and was told he made it all the way to exit 75 (we saw him near exit 50) so he managed to avoid a serious accident for 25 miles going like a bat out of hell in the wrong lane on a heavily used interstate.  Patrol said he avoided or hit stop sticks (don't remember which) at the on ramp he was using to get off but still managed to get away, although they claim to know who it is.

I was thinking, how in the world do the police stop someone in this situation.  Only thing I come up with is they wait until he crashes, stops, turns around, or gets off somehow.

Any experience with this?

They follow behind the wrong way driver (Getting officers ahead of them to try to stop traffic, if possible) and execute a PIT maneuver as quickly as possible.

I am assuming that the vehicle in question was a large truck, not a pickup.  Not sure the PIT would work on one of those.  But would be fun to watch.

Phoenix has a bad problem with this. New experimental system has been developed to send an early warning to ADOT and freeway signs begin to post warnings almost immediately.

It was a pick up, or maybe SUV.  Happend so fast, hard to process.

Saw the aftermath of a Jeep going South in the North bound lanes of I-25 near Castle Rock a LONG time ago. Open Jeep no seat belt and it weren't pretty. THAT was NOT the only time in my big truck I observed the wrong way stuff.  Lips Sealed
I will NOT even git into folks straddling  the yellow line on 2 lanes here bouts. RIDE SAFE.
