As some of you might know. Mark has Bergers Disease.  A simple explanation it's where the IGa component in the blood that normally fights infection, starts to accumulate in the kidneys and clogs them. The disease is not curable nor is it reversible.

During this process, various things go out of kilter causing different problems.  Mark presently is on a very high dosage of cortisone causing side effects from that too.  To make matters worse, since he's not employed, his wife's insurance doesn't pay for some of the prescribed procedures.  I won't go into detail there.

At this point, he's having side effects that are discouraging for him.  This is not life threatening but he is in the third stage of kidney failure. As his Dad, I wanted to put this on the VRCC, he probably wouldn't have wanted me to, but I have.

I am so sorry about this.  I had never heard of this disease before until yesterday.  A friend of mine who manages the Orme Hardware in my town of Arcanum told me yesterday he has the same thing.  I will pray for both.

Safe Winds... Brother

MAD6Gun

I wanted to drop a note and thank everyone for their support and prayers. Basically what my dad said is true. I have N stage renal disease (kidney failure). Right now I am in stage 3. Stage 4 is dyalisis, 5 is trasnplant. My doctor (nephrologist) is trying to control it with meds. So far so good but as a result of the kidney failure my blood platelets are very low. So I see another doctor (hematologist) for that condition. I saw him a couple of weeks ago and my platelets were at 77,000. Normal is 150,000. Doc says as long as mine are above 100,000 he's OK with that. Well obviously their not. So he wanted to try a short term high dose treatment of prednisone. So a week ago yesterday I started. 10 pills a day for 4 days. 40 pills total. Took the last dose Monday and after that I started feeling really crappy. I felt disconnect, sometimes dizzy and tired. Didnt feel like doing anything. I even slept several days which I never do.  I called the doc on wed and was told that taking a big dose of steroids like that can cause that feeling. This sucks. I see the doc next week to see if the treatment worked. I sure as hell hope it did because I don't want to go through this crap again.

Dad mentioned that I am not working. I quit being a auto tech after my double knee replacement last year. With all the medical problems I have my wife and I decided to file for disability. I did that in January with Premier Disability. They are a advocacy group to help people through disability. Basically a lawyer. The first was denied outright. We appealed. Social security sent me forms to fill out in detail of how physical my job as a tech was. I filled them out in detail. A few weeks later I get a letter from SS stating basically "although you can't do what you did for 33+ years you could do something else". Claim denied. So now we go into the hearing phase. Ain't government fine?

Sorry to hearabout your troubles Mark. I know people that tried to get disability for 5 years. Finally they gave it to them with back pay. It may be a long road but eventually you will get it. What pisses me off is the people that don't need itbut get it instantly. I knowof one guy that was a drunk and claimed his back hurt. It may have hurt but didn't stop him from doing what he wanted. He filed for disabi.ity and was receiving checks within 6 montns. Hang in there, we areall praying for you.  :cooldude:

Ken aka Oil Burner

Best of luck with the treatment, and best of luck getting disability.

My situation is nothing like yours, but I have a condition that took me out of being an auto tech for the last 25 years, too. I was having serious muscle and joint problems, and after a crapload of tests, they found out that I have Lyme disease. I guess it's no surprise, since I've spent a ton of my life in the woods fishing, hunting, ATVing, etc. I've been bit by more than a couple ticks, but never thought much about it. Well, at this point, I am now a rare type of diabetic (pancreas corrupted by a co-infection) and my base hormone output is way too low, also due to damage to my central nervous system by a bacterial infection.  So, my situation is not like yours, but it took me out of the game almost completely at one point. I'm far weaker than I used to be, and I have a lot of joint issues still. I was denied disability as well, also with the statement that even though I can't do my job, I'm not unable to do something. I haven't figured out what that might be yet, but what I'm currently able to do physically won't pay the bills. Thankfully, the wife is working, so we're still drowning, but slower than we would be. I used to be the sole income.

Well, I hope your numbers improve and things start looking up for you. Best of luck on all counts.

I, too, would like to thank all of you for the response.   I have a concern for all of my 'kids' even though the oldest is 61.

When my wife was terminal and I was a caregiver for her, Mark was there to help since he lived at home.

Oh boy... Mark I 'm sorry to hear of this recent development.   Dawn and I are praying for you.

Hang in there!!

Still praying for a solution.  I do know about the low platelets thing and the prednisone.  My platelets were five when my Dr put me on the high dose prednisone for two weeks.  When I came off I was in Home Depot and I kinda forgot where I was, what I was doing there.  It was almost as if I was watching myself and trying to control what I was doing by remote control.  That disconnected feeling was horrible, but luckily it only lasted a few minutes.

My platelets are rising now, they are 22 and slowly rising.

You came to the right place to find prayers for a brother.

Also you can tell him, as he should know that we all are pulling for him.
