video shows 17 yr old walking away from cops. he goes down after first shot and then the cop proceeds to empty his clip into him.

  If they did not convict him , there would have been another riot. It was the lesser of two evils. Thru the whole trial , there was pictures of the kid in a graduation gown and nicey nicey photos. The LOE had mug shot photos.  I bet there will still be rioting. He may have been wrong , but the kid was not right.

I have watched the video several times. If the cops tried a take down and one got stabbed , the kid was scaird , and justified. I also read his rap sheet. The outcome should have been different.

Tragic.  The video sure did not match the LEO's description of the event.  Just based on teh video, I can't make a case for use of force.  That said, there was a recent incident in Van Nuys, CA in which police tried to escalate force more gradually.  The suspect got a hold of a hostage and the end result was two deaths instead of one.

There is no one size fits all guide to use of force.  If there were bystanders nearby and the LEO thought the suspect posed an immediate danger to them, the use would have been justified.  A self defense line of logic just doesn't hold water given the video.
