Termites

I've been working on a corner of my garage for two days tearing out studs, sheathing, and top and bottom plates. The back side of my garage is about four feet below ground level, it's on the same level as my walk out basement. I got rid of the termites long ago but one must correct the damage they wreaked. As usual they covered more ground than I could see at first which isn't surprising. Anyway I'm going back with all pressure treated lumber for plates and studs and I'm using hardibacker 1/2" cement board for th exterior sheathing, I want to see them get around that!

This reverse engineering construction is a slow go, especially working by yourself. I've got at least another day of work ahead, at least I'm having great temperatures for working outdoors.

Check the label to see that it is treated for ground contact...

Tim-bor is a great product to prevent reinfestation and kill existing termites.

I worked every day off except 2 for 10 months repairing termite damage to my home a few years ago. Man I hate termites.

Nothing making ground contact. But this one corner had plywood sheathingthat extended down below ground level behind a brick veneer and the termites got between the brick and started on the plywood and expanded from there. I has treated plates on top of the concrete blocks and they were untouched. That's the reason for using cement board as my exterior sheathing and everything else replaced is now treated. I treated for the termites about 10 years ago and they have not returned.
