Well, I wish her the best, but its obviously time for her to retire.  Not JUST saying this so Trump can appoint another Justice (that is however, a good thing) but seriously no career is worth remaining with such daunting physical conditions at her age.  She deserves to relax some, I don't think she has much time left.

Breaking: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Taken To Hospital, Fell, Broke 3 Ribs

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was hospitalized Thursday after fracturing three ribs on her left side in a fall at her office a day earlier, the court said in a news release.

Ginsburg, 85, initially went home after the accident, which occurred in her Supreme Court office. But she later reported experiencing some discomfort, and was admitted to George Washington University Hospital "for observation and treatment."

Ginsburg has survived a series of health scares. She broke two ribs in a fall in 2012, has had two prior bouts with cancer and had a stent implanted to open a blocked artery in 2014.

May she make a full recovery, and have a long, pleasant retirement spending her remaining years on a beach somewhere.

She hasn't been physically going to the actual hearings for some time now, so it should have no effect on how she functions on the court. She'll still be able to scan a paragraph or two describing the case, and rule on it according to her, "feelings".

Term Limits!!...I know that timing is good for Constitutionalists right now, but that will not always be the case. "Generational Time Spans" is not optimal if Marxist Dogma Driven Justices Take Over at some point in the future!!!!!

Short of misconduct (I would not expect misconduct on the part of a Supreme Court Justice), I don't believe there is any way to forcibly remove her from office. Given her health issues, maybe it's time, but she has to be the one to make that decision.

I don’t know the woman but I wish her a full and speedy recovery. 85 and suffering from those injuries has to be brutal, I feel bad for the lady. Politics or not she’s a person and it’s a bad situation.

My wife found an elderly lady sitting on the ground in the vestibule of our local Shop Rite supermarket on Saturday. She lost her breath walking from the parking lot. She was able to make it to where the shopping carts are but had to sit down but her inhaler was in the pocketbook which was already in the cart and she couldn’t stand up to get it. Barbara said people just walked by her, didn’t see her, she just blended in to all the displays set up. A man exiting the store got the store manager and Barbara left it in their hands. She asked about the lady later and was told once the inhaler did its job she was able to do her shopping but someone went with her.

My wife, an ICU nurse, mentioned that someone this age that breaks their ribs very often develops pneumonia that is quite tough to recover from.  I do hope a speedy recovery is in order.

This town is populated by older people. We see this quite often. Many times they are embarrassed and go off to the bathroom to hide it out. A lot of the older couples are now single shoppers due to the spouse staying in the car. I think we have 8 cartmarts in the store. Most of them are in use constantly. It’s very sad seeing them get old and go downhill. It happens quick.

Isn't impeachment limited to a violation of the law?  I don't believe Justice Ginsburg has done anything illegal but is simply unable to adequately perform the tasks of her position.

Justices are appointed for life.  Perhaps the law needs to change from life to end of life or senility.

Ask Rams about broken ribs.

I don't believe my response would meet the required standard of civility.

Five, ribs three through seven broken, front and back.    Ginsburg has no idea how painful broken ribs can be.   But, I am blessed just to be here so, I won't gripe about a little pain......

Being honest, the broken collar bone is just as painful until I sneeze or cough.  At that point, the ribs win by a long shot.....

Oh, forgot to mention, since my incident, I've also come down with Shingles. (Something about a depressed immune system)
All I need now is projectile vomiting and explosive diarrhea to make my month.......

Sorry to hear about the shingles (on top of the ribs) Ron.

I had a mild case of that some years back.  It didn't feel mild, until I read up on it (only my chest, not my face).

It was like some kind of medieval curse.

The literature says recurrences are common.  So far so good (for me).

No argument from me on that....

RBG really does need to enjoy her retirement.   Maybe this will help convince her it's time to hand that gavel over to someone that can stay awake while arguments are brought before the court.

This past Saturday my father in law fell and broke his femur it was a very bad break and require surgery.  He is 84 yo they had to install a rod and screws I figured this was going to take months for him to be back on his feet.  Today was his first day in rehab and to my surprise I walked in to find him standing with a bit of help.  Everyone is different and they heal differently she may bounce back quicker the you expect, heck if my father in law can anyone can!

I doubt it.  Supreme Court Justices get to pick from the finest available legal talent (clerks) in the country, and all oral arguments are reproduced in writing.  You've already read the appeal to vote up or down on hearing it (certiorari), you tell your clerks how you are going to decide, and how to support/write it, then you sit down and edit their work to your satisfaction.  (I actually knew and worked with a former Ginsburg Clerk with USDVA; a very good lawyer, and committed socialist)

Those clerks earn an avg of $84K (and can expect to be paid double what their non-clerk peers make when they flip to the private sector).  They can make you look pretty smart.

The oldest person to serve as a Supreme Court Justice was Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., (1902-1932) who was 90 when he retired from the Court.

Something about a depressed immune system

I guess that's a known cause, but for me it was time of my life with the most (nearly unbearable) stress, at home and at work.  For about a two year period, the only time of my life worth living was when I was asleep.  So the shingles just added to the happiness.  crazy2

Dont know if this is totally true since the information has not been broadcast all over, but it would mean Trump appoints another Supreme court Justice. The pick will not really be challenged since the Republicans hold the Senate. But we can probably expect the Dems to try Court-packing, the Democrats’ nuclear option for the Supreme Court. This would also explain the Dems furious attack on Kavanaugh since they knew this was coming.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's cancer is out of remission. She plans to retire from the Supreme Court in January, 2019.

Speaking privately, a law clerk said the Justice's Cancer has come out of remission

She has told key Democratic members of the Senate about her medical condition, including ranking Democratic member of the Judiciary Committee Dianne Feinstein. This explains in part the "take no prisoners" attitude of the Democrats during the Kavanaugh nomination, carefully orchestrating weak 37 year old allegations against Kavanaugh by Women he barely remembers knowing in High School and College.

I hate to sound morbid but retire or expire President Trump or Mike Pense will likely appoint a newe Supreme Court justice with the backing of the Republican majority in the Senate.

Rams

she's the bionic woman.

In 1999, Ginsburg was diagnosed with colon cancer. She successfully underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation to treat it.

But during a routine scan in 2009 at the National Institutes for Health, doctors discovered a small cancerous tumor in her pancreas. Although at the time the diagnosis seemed grim, she successfully recovered.

Neither bout of cancer caused her to miss any significant time on the bench.

Later on in 2009, while undergoing outpatient treatment for iron deficiency, she spent a night in the hospital after feeling lightheaded.

Most recently, on Nov. 26, 2014, she felt discomfort after a workout session with her personal trainer, and was admitted to the hospital. Doctors placed a stent in her heart.
