At the end of the week on Fridays my treat was to go for a dinner and see a show, that changed when, at 1am trying to go home there was a traffic jam on the L,I,E. Forget it when there was snow, that would be the LIRR, cant tell you how many good shoes were ruined by walking to the station.

I feel the same way Evan.  But I just never left my house to begin with.

Just going out to my mailbox looked like a 50/50 slip and fall.......... and suing the owner is out.   ;D

that is NY for you!   Not like I would know since if I get stopped in traffic for more than a few minutes, I go nuts.  So use to the country, small town ways that big city traffic drives me NUTS.

Safer to stay at the office than be out among all the others desperate to go home and acting foolishly.

Evan: My local news said you might get 9" of that ugly white stuff. So when do you retire and get the heck out of gridlock??

BTW: I've seen snow in PHX 5 times in 47 years. It's gone by noon.

It took me a little over 3 hours to make a 45 minute ride today.  Long day and I only worked until 3pm.

Left at 10 back at 1050 made it 1 block and uturn into a parking spot

Cars are on the sidewalk, everywhere  cant believe 3 tries no joy   wow this is one for the ages !!

Took my bug out bag out of my car and back in the office, put on dry socks from my bag and now wearing my down vest to warm up, drinking 12 yr old glenlivet scotch (for purely medicinal reasons), going to plug in the water cooler to make hot water and will be eating cookies for the sugar rush, probably best to pass out in an hour or so and just say screw it

Wife is ok knowing I am staying put as roads are closed near my home the Bx River Pkwy and Saw Mill are closed  Best thing is to drink in peace and sleep

There once was a time when people stayed off icy roads if they did not have the proper equipment and skill.  But like so many things these days, huge numbers of people run right ahead and get out on the ice and snow without any skill and no clue as to what tires/autos work or are dangerous in such situations.  They make it impassable for people that do have the proper equipment and skill.

It is good that you have an alternate plan to just stay at the office.  Otherwise, one of the crazy ones might crash into you and make an even greater mess of your day.

What I saw on the evening "news" weren't purty at all!  :-\ Traffic on the G W bridge wuz just sittin there. Been thru a couple of those in yer state Evan when I wuz still drivin big truck. Winter I ALWAYS had food and water in the truck. Cold snowy slickery I tried to NOT let my fuel go less than half. Full I carried 300 gallons. Kept engine runnin to provide heat. You live in the snow belt you WILL have some of those "days"!  :-X Don't know if this helps but that snow we had here is already 90% melted off. RIDE SAFE.

OSS--sounds like quite an adventure you are having.  My daughter and future husband were living in Astoria when a major power outage occured a number of years ago, affecting the entire area.  She worked in midtown and he taught school in the Bronx.  He was riding the subway to meet here when the power went out.  After a couple of hours he was able to get out and during a brief moment of connectivity they got together via cell, met up and walked back to Astoria.  Of course this was during the summer.
Nothing in moderation...

I sadly think we have reached the tipping point of stoopid people. We're just outnumbered!

I worked 18 hours this storm. During the height of it, a young woman was stuck on a hill in town, (in a Prius ) no wreck, just couldn't get up the hill. She called 911, and reported that the town plow truck went around her, and didn't help her. Just imagine if we stopped to help every stuck car, nothing would get plowed...besides, rules forbid us from pushing, pulling, or anything to cars for liability reasons. If it's an accident, we stop and assist, letting PD know details & help anyone injured.
Anyhow she demanded to the police that the plow driver come back immediately and get her to the top of the hill so she could go home. PD called her a tow truck.
SMH, ya can't fix stupid...

That first icy slicky snowy day ALWAYS tests Every ones driving ability or lack there of. We even had the STOOPID here bouts the other day when our little dab of snow hit here. Returning from Springfield Mo. yesterday saw tracks in the grass-either side of the roadway-that were Very recent! Gosh golly-wunder HOW did that Happen?  Willin to bet some folks waited a bit TOO long fer the new shoes fer the cage.  :-X Ross-da prez-told me the other day they had the same sort of "fun" up in north Illinois with their first snow fall. Course as most of us that live in snow country KNOW some folks Never do learn HOW to drive when It's icy slick.  Try Any southern states major metro area when it ices up!  RIDE SAFE.
