Don't know about sugar, but I had a little rocket that used vinegar and sodium bicarbonate.

YES!  When I was in Jr. High (1960) I had one that was powered by a garden hose.  Hook up the hose and let her go.  And yes I have done the Estes rockets as well.  Always wanted to try the one that had the 8mm camera on board.

But this one was fun to watch (Polaris A-3)

And this one better yet.

If I fired that off in my Regan National Airport, military base controlled airspace I'm afraid I would just disappear.

In my youth, I did a lot of risky/silly things.   crazy2  uglystupid2

I think I'll leave this to those that still have the need to learn some things the hard way.  I'll pass.    Smiley

I built and launched many Estes rockets in Jr high time frame.  I also learned how to launch tennis balls a couple thousand feet in the air with a cannon made from soda cans.  Soda cans don't work anymore because they are just very thin aluminum.

Today you have to use vegetable cans and search for just the right diameter to slide a tennis ball in without too much slop.  I made one with my son some years ago and we had to duct tape the tennis ball to get a good fit but we got it to work.

Not that I would ever condone such hooliganish behavior, but it's truly amazing what you can make with two bolts, a nut and the heads from a few matches...

(Seriously, if you do this, be VERY careful, when I was a child "a friend" may or may not have launched a very heavy bolt 100+ yards using this method! It would be very dangerous, possibly even lethal, if it hit someone.)
