I wanted a leather jacket but the ones at the cycle shop are all to bulky and heavy. So was looking around and noticed a couple of vests and decided to try one on. I liked it and have worn it for the last night ride I took since the temps are varying so much it goes from comfortable to cold. Mobility was good, comfort was good and all around I think I liked it and was wondering how many and do you like vests.

Figured I could layer with a jacket and the vest and would be all around covered. Opinions please.

As long as it works for you, I wouldn't say anything.

Wearing the vest on the outside of your jacket?
Something to put your VRCC back patch on?

Explain please.

I have several leather and a couple Carhartt lined weathered duck cordura vests.  (and two down vests too, which can be crammed under riding gear for increased warmth)

The leather ones look cooler, but the Carhartts work better (and are more comfortable and warmer).

They are good for in between weather and wind block.

BTW, you never want any collar on a vest.

Wore this today.

When not riding I seldom use a jacket - always a vest.
On the bike always  vest under the jacket if cold or vest by itself if moderate.

I like light leather or polar tech for under a jacket. Heavier and lined and fleeced for vest only.
Nylon insulated also works well.

As for collars I like them on the polar tech helps stop the neck draft and when wearing a vest alone. draft. Not lay down wing collars but stand up/zip up collars.

This is the idea I was thinking about, wear the vest instead of a jacket, if the temps get cooler put a sweater on over or under the vest. But use the vest as the main rider wear instead of a jacket since most of the time its hot here. Seems to me it could be much more comfortable with the vest to ride in more situations.

The vest I bought was a fairly heavy leather riding type vest with the protection in the back panel made by Street and Steel.
Wondering how many use vests and yes it would be a great place for VRCC patches.

While my leather jacket IS on the heavy side should I in Fact have an unload I want the leather tween my skin and the pavement or gravel or whatever the hell I'm slidin on. My M/C vest has too many pins and danglies on it to be comfortable under the jacket. BUT you do whatever suits you. Hot days in the summer my mesh rides in a saddle bag or trunk a LOT.  Roll Eyes I just KNOW that comin up on 74 I takes mucho longer to heal!  Lips Sealed RIDE SAFE.

If you look at motorcycle jackets with road rash, the damage is often on the sleeves and shoulders.  My hot-weather riding protection is an armoured mesh jacket, not a vest.  My vest is made for walking (and for over a heavy leather jacket).

then there is the airbag vest

Wear my mesh hit-air jacket year round most of the time and always when commuting to work.  When it gets near 40 or below I also use the tourmaster heated jacket liner and gloves

When it is really hot the jacket keeps me from losing water due to condensation  When really really hot on long trips I do wet down the thermal wet vest (construction grade) every gas stop with ice water.

When really hot and humid nothing helps and I will sometimes just wear a henley shirt under the vrcc vest but that is pretty rare even here in ny.  Draggin jeans used to make a nice long sleeve kevlar shirt  Matt (Truckmaster) was showing me his set up at a Johnson City Inzane one year... kind of like a canary yellow. He said it was comfortable and gave total rash protection

Diffrent strokes for diffrent folks is fine
