Got another medical hit. Last Sunday my right foot starting hurting. Felt like I had injured it somehow but didnt. Didn't make any sense. By Monday night I couldn't walk on it it hurt so bad. Was swollen and red. Went to doc Tuesday. The did x-rays just in case. Nothing on x-rays. Doc determined it was gout in the joint of my big toe. I was told that gout is common in people that have kidney "bergers" disease that I have. This is very painful. I can't walk on it and sleeping is hard sometimes. If I was still working it would be impossible to do that. I can't even Uber since pushing on the pedals in very painful.
This getting old chit is getting old.

Sorry you've got a bad wheel Mark... I've had bouts of gout a few times over the years (mostly in the big toe joint, and once in my right knee), and I agree, the pain is debilitating You will probably get many reply's, with 'cures', but one that works for me, is drinking pure Pomegranate juice... The stuff is pricey, but does the trick Sold in grocery stores, in a weird shaped bottle, brand name 'Pom'. Also avoid rich foods, like scallops & liver (two of my 'triggers'). My Doc once gave me a few day script for prednisone (the time with the knee), and that worked in two days! Hope yer up n kickin' soon Black Dog

Discovered that I had problems with Gout when I was 20. Had problems with left knee. Doc said that normally was left big toe because of the way the blood moves thru your legs.
Doc gave me some drugs, all they did was to mess with stomach. Changed diet, that took care of the problem. There are some foods you should reduce your consumption of. Like Beer/Alcohol, beans, meat etc. Didn't say stop eating them just reduce. It will help with the gout.

I have had many bouts with this over the years. 8 years ago a specialist told me to cut my meat intake in half, (all meat) and I did and have not had gout since. Worked for me.

Had a problem with it in my hip.
Found a couple of sites on the web that suggested taking a tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar everyday.
After a couple of days I was pain free.

Mark,
Hate it for ya, man! Aging, while it definitely beats the alternative, can surely be a pain!!! Appears from those who've preceded you in experience, they're all suggesting probable lifestyle and/or eating habit changes are in order... I surely hate those, as does everybody, but... Oh well, now you know you're not alone, anyway!!! Good luck...

Had bouts of gout since my late 30's. Would be anywhere from a couple of months to over a year in between attacks. Finally had a foot doctor give me a prescription for Allopurinol just prior to my knee surgery in 2012. Haven't had an attack since. Love that stuff!

Go to Dr and get a prescription for Allopurinol. Do it. THEN start trying alternative remedies. Along with the pain gout is VERY bad for the joints. It's uric acid crystals that are forming. Gout is another form of arthritis and you need to get it handled RIGHT NOW. https://www.goutpal.com/

Prior to cutting my meat intake I was on allopurinol also. Specialist told me if I cut my meat intake I could stop taking allopurinol. I did and never looked back, but I think we all react different ways. I think you could line up 10 people with gout and the same treatment will not work. We all produce uric acid from different sources it seems.

Yup, get the Allopurinol. I take 100mg twice a day, been doing it for about 10 yrs. now. It has kept the kidney stones clear 100% and no issues with gout.

I forgot to say my kidney doc has me on Uloric. I asked him when he did why he would put me on a med for gout. I never have had gout. He told me it can happen to patients with this disease. Now I know. I will mention Allopurinol to him and see what he says...

I by no means meant to indicate what you are going through is any less what I'm going through. I didn't want to hijack your thread saying this. This is not a game I want to complete in ether.

No offense taken. Just trying a little levity. I'm truly sorry to hear of your troubles. I don't even try to compare one to another. I hope you beat these challenges. The next cold one is one me when we see each other again (he says hopefully)

Uloric and allopurinol do the same thing; they both reduce serum urate. Recent research suggests that Uloric is actually more effective than allopurinol. Unfortunately, reducing serum urate is a preventive measure. Neither are meant to treat an acute attack.
