Rob,

"Another employee was also accidentally shot..." Sounds like a strong case to be made for 'gun control'!   coolsmiley

Update: I meant this as a sardonic (and poor) attempt at humor... 'Gun control' as in NOT hitting unintended targets...

Obviously, not a gun issue, a human gun owner issue.

I once had a problem paying my bill at a foreign owned I Hop.  Because their register broke, they insisted we could not leave until it was fixed.  After 3 minutes and no luck, I plopped down cash (rounded up), retrieved my tip from the table and left.  A guy began to grab my arm, and I suggested he not do that.  He mentioned calling the police, and I told him to go ahead; HE would be the one arrested (for kidnap or false imprisonment and/or assault).  No firearms were produced.

The food was pretty good, but the service was keystone cops ridiculous.

 tickedoff

I hope the customer heals fast and completely.

Money and other “things” are not worth anybody’s life!  If you get really mad at someone, you can get over it but you can never take a bullet back once it has been fired.

This guy grabbed a gun and used it because he wanted to cause extreme harm.  Had the gun not been there, he would have picked up a knife and caused serious harm.  His intent to cause serious harm is the problem.  I hope he gets some extra “free” time to ponder that.........somewhere such that he cannot harm anyone.

I worry about the pandemic of anger and violence and self righteousness in this country and the world.  While many people strive for respect and self control, there is a growing need to reign in the anger and self righteousness.  Until we do, I expect we will see more and more of these senseless violent acts.

Checked out the reviews on this place. After eating there maybe getting shot is the most merciful thing they can do for their customers. Judging from the reviews, more people may have died from the food. That might be the real story here.

cooldude how hard would it have been for the guy to just walk out and take a pic of him and his license plate ? We have shoplifting here on a daily basis. I don’t even try to detain them anymore. Let the cops track them down.

I guess I can't really disagree with you, but by the same token, if you were the guy running the Chinese buffet, selling meals for $3.99 - $5.99 (I'm sure there is a HUGE profit margin at those prices), wouldn't you be a little pissed if someone tried to steal from you?  This guy probably barely makes a living working 16-20 hr days, and people want to rip you off?  What happened to accountability and being responsible for your debts?

Meathead,
That would be the sensible response.  It would also be the wisest response.  Now 2 lives have been wrecked, his and the customer he shot, and he also injured a coworker with his wreckless anger.  Three people whose lives have been forever changed by his lack of self control.   tickedoff

Skinhead,
Yes, I would be pissed if someone was trying to rip me off.  But now that guy is going to buy a lot of meals and maybe even a new Beamer for a lawyer or maybe even a team of lawyers.  His coworker might have a resentment about working with him.  What’s a $5 meal compared to he money and time going to be coming out of his pocket now?

I like Meathead’s solution.

LOL.  If he somehow manages to keep his business open, he will likely have fewer customers because of this incident.  I expect he will be to busy with legal issues now to even run his business.

The story is sketchy at best leaving some of us (most of us?) to jump to conclusions about what actually took place.

The story says the two from the restaurant went out to confront the thief and got into a fight.  THEN the owner went to get his gun.  The theif wasn't necessarily shot for using an invalid card but for whatever took place in the "fight" of which we are not told.

Not enough info in the story to arrive at the conclusions to which many of us have.

Just seemed like a bizzare story to me. The only conclusion I think I derived from it is, I don't want to work for somebody that's going to shoot me.  Smiley

Or from the other angle, I'd be happy to work for someone who'd be willing to face jail time to defend me... Although I'd prefer they practiced more and became a better shot.

no worries, pretty sure the chinese joint will be closed soon anyways after this incident.

sure hope the people shot pull thru no trivial amount of money due deserves being shot.

I agree,  get license plate and let him/her walk.  I made that mistake when a lady in her junker minivan hit at the time decades ago my newer minivan opening her door and she refused to admit fault on the door ding.  She refused to admit fault even though was there to see it happen, so called the cops to get a simple 100 dollar door ding pulled back out and door handle repainted. When she wanted to take off in her piece of crap minivan I stood in front of her drivers door saying she would have to move me to get in her car, basically refusing to allow her to leave the scene of the accident.  Police arrived soon after and he told me I cannot stop her from leaving the accident, just take pic of the license plate and her with cell phone (at the time a cheapo flip phone but could take so-so pics) and let her leave.  Then what though??  time off work and time taken from my life to go to court to fight a simple 100 dollar claim?  that _itch deserved the book thrown at her since she also told the policeman I hit her and she was going to press charges all the while I was laughing saying out loud, lady if I hit you then you would not be standing right about now.  Cop asked lady to show him where I hit her and she of course did not.  What a lying sack of _hit!

People just need to fess up and admit fault and do the right thing and take ownership of their wrong doings even if a simple 5 dollar meal due.  Getting me or anyone riled up for a simple 100 dollar or under at fault accident is not worth though being shot or even beaten up over.  I had no intentions of hitting her, just telling to her face she was a _itch is all.
