Why do the vendors always have a message sent saying something about "ready for shipment" or words to that effect. Then when you try tracking via the tracking number, the USPS hasn't even rec'd. the package yet. I ordered some stuff to facilitate my maint. project on the Valk, total invoice with S/H and tax was just shy of $200. This past Wednesday I rec'd a shipping notice of said parts, only to find out a few minutes ago it hasn't even been handed over to the PO yet. Why do these idiot vendors always do this, it gives one a false sense of your order being shipped as much as 3 days before it actually happens, and all the while you're thinking it's going to show up any minute.

I just called the vendor, they checked and the parts haven't even been rec'd from the warehouse yet. So I asked why I'm getting a shipping notice under those conditions. I finally told the jerk that it was easier to read computer programming than figure out what the sam hill his explanation was.

OK....I'm done. Just gets my Irish up....and I'm not Irish!  Grin

I have been using Procaliber when the bill is over $100.  and HDL when under $100 and I dont pay any attention to packing and shipping emails until its been 3 or 4 days, then tracking works great and the box gets here on time (usually)

You cant expect things to get processed packaged and sent to the shipping company all in one day unless you pay for it (lotsa $$)

I understand the last two posts, but more than once this vendor hasn't even rec'd the order from the warehouse....it's not in the vendor's place of business yet. I got the "shipping" email two days ago, if I generated a shipping label for the USPS that far ahead I'd be in trouble cuz they're only good until midnight the day it was generated.

Oh well, at least I learned something today about my forks. The allen bolt in the bottom doesn't need to be removed so you can replace the seals. The two main parts of the forks come apart the same way on both forks, pop them apart like a sliding hammer. Sure would have saved me some time and consternation if that info had been shared a few days ago.

Well, nobody got "axed"  Wink  but I did put forth the question on the Tech board. Also got a couple PM's and a direct email. All said that allen bolt had to be removed. Turns out that's not the case so tomorrow I'll clean up the forks inside and out and install the seals, then new oil, screw on the cap and set them in the corner for the time being.

John,

Just FYI the USPO isn't picky about the date of shipping on the label vs. when they actually get it.  I use priority mail for small pkgs and sometimes the label is made days in advance like if they ordered something but the batch has to be run (but I don't tell the customer) - have never had any pushback or refusal from the USPO on such pkgs.  So don't sweat that.

I wasn't planning on it but I've had at least five people suggest I do it simply because I have them apart and might as well add that to the list.....so guess I'll take the suggestions. Wish I could find a vendor that has some in stock so I didn't have to wait a month of Sundays for delivery. The bottom one is somewhat worn it's probably a good idea. That should make them last as long as I'll be able to ride.  cooldude

Mark, every time I've printed out a label for the USPS, it always tells me that label is only good until midnight the day I print it. That's why I couldn't figure out how a vendor could indicate "shipping" especially when in a few cases the parts weren't even in house. It also bugs me that they will never drop ship, thereby cutting down my wait time by up to a week.

I may have some on hand if you need them immediately and can't wait, you could just order yours and ship them to me if you want mine.  Sent the part number of what you are replacing so I know we're talking the same thing if you want to go that route.

Thanks for the offer, I just ordered some off Ebay, did it by p/n and they all came up in the OEM packaging so should be good to go. Cost a lot less also plus when I asked, they said it was shelf stock no longer needed so didn't need to order in from the warehouse. Should have them midweek.
