How do you remove the chrome end caps/weights from 2014 Valk hand grips?

I recently purchased some wind shields that will cover my hands when riding. Part of mounting them requires me to remove the ends of the hand-grips, so that I can install the shields, and that includes a long threaded screw that screws into the ends of the grips.

The caps look like this:

I see a little round piece in the center, and I think that's the part that is covering where I'll install the new bolt. But I don't see how to get it out, or get the whole cap/weight off? I saw a video where the guy just took a pair of pliers and ripped it off, but since I bought this bike, new, about 4 weeks ago, I'm a little leery to take a pair of pliers to it, you know?

Can someone please confirm for me how to get the ends off so I can complete this install?

Thanks!@

Yes, they unscrew and sometimes without your knowledge so you have to check from time to time.  ;D

Unfortunately, the handlebar grips on the Valk are different from the standard GW and IMHO there's nothing you can do about it or tie anything.  :'(
