WWI documentary from Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings movie maker dude), WWI footage cleaned up, colorized, made to look modern.

This isn't your usual documentary.

It's not fiction.

It's only in theaters one more day, the 27th.

Go see it in a theater. Worth it. Just got back from seeing it with my dad in 3D (The 3D was very tastefully done) Just go see it. Yes, you can get the BluRay now, doesn't matter. Go see it in a theater. It was incredibly powerful.

A pile of generals should have been shot for dereliction and criminal negligence in that war.

When you lead millions of men and boys to their death, ignorance is no excuse.

The parallels with the later stages of the US Civil War are remarkable.  So it wasn't new.... though heavy machine guns in the thousands (and gas) was new.

My grandfather fought in WWI in France.  I used to have his gas mask and first aid kit when I was a kid--as a snot nosed irresponsible brat, I must have lost them.  Sure wish I had today.  If it is playing on Dec 27 around here I will take mt WWII vet father to see.  He's 92 now but in great shape.  Golfs twice a week in warm weather.

I have not seen it but I understand about how some generals fight. Some never learn from the past. I saw it in Vietnam, Take that hill and then leave it and go back in 6 months and do it again. When you get it keep it. The movie WE Were Soldiers, I was a scout in the 1st Air Cav and saw first hand the mistakes that were made with ground troops. There is nothing wrong with retreating regrouping and getting back in the fight. There were times they did not listen to us scouts, do not send troops in yet, shell the place with arty some more. Then they would not let us go back and pull them out and the outcome was not pretty. Some real blunders from the past never were changed. I always said study your enemy fight like your enemy and become your enemies enemy.

For those whom missed it the first time around, they're expanding it to more theaters in early February...

Even if you never go to a theater (I'm almost in that camp) I highly recommend going and seeing this one....

Carolyn and I went the other day... we mistakenly showed up at
a time when only the 3d version was playing so we watched that.

I'd probably go for not seeing the 3d version, though there was
a bit of the 3d part that was pretty good, most of it though was
just blurry...

I hope they update the listing soon on what theaters will be showing it.

So far, the only states listed for showing on Feb 1st are Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, and New York.

I hope that is expanded out to further states if 500 theaters are showing it again.
