The U.S aid aims to promote better security conditions and job opportunities as part of a regional plan to allow Central Americans to remain in their countries and not have to emigrate.

The real challenge here is getting the money to where its needed. So often it ends up in the hands of corruption. How do we solve that?

If these huge (deficit) dollars aren't tied to stopping the freeway of illegals to our boarder, it should be cancelled. (it should probably be cancelled anyway)

$10.6B for aid but no $5B for wall improvement. Yep, that makes sense.

you can flush all the money you want down a toilet but it is still a toilet. Money a band-ad on cancer. Money does not fix the problem people fix the problem. Look at all the money and benefits we give people in the US and we still can't fix the welfare pimps and homeless. They have to want to fix themselves. We give & give to make ourselves feel good and they laugh at us as fools.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/new-jersey-couple-including-kate-mcclure-and-homeless-man-johnny-bobbit-arrested-in-gofundme-scam/Homeless veteran and New Jersey couple arrested in GoFundMe scam By Kate Smith Updated on: November 16, 2018 / 1:55 AM / CBS News A New Jersey couple and homeless veteran who captured international attention and praise for their heartwarming "good Samaritan" tale have been arrested for fraud, an unexpected twist in a yearlong story of good deeds gone wrong. The Burlington County prosecutor's office announced the charges Thursday. The woman, Katelyn McClure, and her boyfriend, Mark D'Amico, started a GoFundMe campaign for Johnny Bobbitt last year after sharing a story of how he supposedly offered his last $20 to help McClure when her car ran out of gas. The "Paying it Forward" fundraiser was immensely popular, collecting over $400,000 from over 14,000 donors around the world. But the feel-good story quickly started to unravel into a dispute over money. And now prosecutors say it was all a scam from the beginning. "It might seem too good to be true and unfortunately it was," prosecutor Scott Coffina said at a press conference Thursday afternoon. "The entire campaign was predicated on a lie." According to Coffina, McClure texted a friend less than an hour after the GoFundMe campaign launched, saying the story was "completely made up." McClure did not run out of gas on an I-95 ramp and Bobbitt did not offer his last $20 to help her. In the text exchange, McClure told her friends to "shh about the made up stuff," Coffina said.

Working the numbers: the USA population is around 325 millions.
It seems that around 28-33% of the population supports Trump in this days, rounding up that would be 107 million people.
Assuming that 1/2 of those supporters donated $10, that would yield roughly $ 535 million dollars, which is 10x short than what Donald wants.
Even if *all* the Trump supports donated, it would still be 5x short than what he wants for his wall.
It may be interesting to consider that experts say (ignoring the impracticality of building a wall through 2000 miles in irregular landscape) that such a wall could cost between $25 to $ 50 billion dollars (or 50x shorter than the impossible scenario where all Trump supporters donated money for such wall).
Finally, didn't he said that Mexico was going to pay for it? :-P
A smarter and cheaper approach is to allow investments in Central America, like the USA used to do in 60's and 70's. That would both be profitable and allow deeper influence in such countries.
Believe me, China is already starting to invest in South America (Argentina and Brazil comes to mind), targeting to have both return on the investment, access to natural resources and have influence in those countries.
China is also discussing with Panama the idea of building a new and bigger canal to allow big cargo ships to sail through it.
Such massive construction project should be led by USA (like this country used to do, under Ted Roosevelt).

I believe that kind of money for a wall is too much.
Accordingly, they should put in half mile deep multidensity mine fields... with warning signs in multiple languages.
A fraction of the cost, and much more effective.
And the UN can KMA.

much cheaper, and probably much more effective. The first couple people go down after setting off a mine will scare everybody else into NOT trying it.

the fight would be on with the RR if they try and enlarge the Panama Canal. Friend of mine retired from the RR and said all the cargo containers on the southern route RR is traveling west to a port on the east coast going to Europe. Making the canal larger would break the RR.

They've already made it larger: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_Canal
