We are rollin' out Tuesday New Years Day for a trip into the North Georgia mountains . Weather not looking the best for a motorcycle road trip in fact The Tennessee Valley Authority claim's 2018 is the wettest on record for the Tennessee valley. Looking as if 2019 will continue the water works . Hookin' up with Mike ( hupcap ) somewhere around Tellico Plains, Tennessee or Field Of The Woods in North Carolina . We'll spend the night in Dahlonega , Georgia. Anyone wanting to ride in the new year with us let me know and I'll give you details .

Good for all of you.  I have only missed riding on New Years Day a few times and this year will not be one of them as temp should be above 50  Downright balmy for NY

Got out for a while this afternoon. 33 degrees, no salt that I could see on the road and the wind had totally dried the road from the overnite flurries.

Sorry to hear you wont make it down to the Gulf this year Joe. Always enjoy the pics of HalfBreed on the beach

All I can say is "I am jealous". While no where near the coldest winter on record, the salt trucks seem to think we all need double helpings so even on 40 plus degree days I won't venture out. tickedoff

Yah, what is up with all the salt trucks in WI throwing out by the bucketloads just pouring all that LARGE salt chunks on the road for ONLY a few dustings of snow so far this year? I followed one 10 miles unable to pass having to stay back like 8 cars behind for any closer rock salt chunks were chipping my windshield on the hwy.  He was dumping that crap out full throttle and there was NO SNOW really at all on the roads or coming down in November.  What a waste.  Have heard the hwy dept. is going to try to create something else than the salt to spread on the roads to help melt the ice/snow.  I sure hope so since not only is it expensive to do, but ruins cars in no time flat whether it be rust or chips in the windshield.

Salt not a big deal here it's that nasty brime liquid crap that spread . Not a nook or cranny that stuff doesn't go. Lucky this year so far .

Joe,

I've pondered on it some, and... I reckon I'm going to have to take the wimp route... Actually, I'm just hanging around eastern North Carolina awaiting a weather window to tempt us, so ALI and I can head for Florida... I'd rather ride with all y'all, but not when rain is in the forecast! You stronger young'uns go play and give us a report on your experiences... I'll be someplace whimpering and hiding from... adversity... Amazing how delicate I've become, huh...

Here's how I anticipate my report will read:

I sneaked out Tuesday to meet them after the rain mostly stopped
and slunk home Wednesday morning before it got started
  too hard again...  Wink

Was lucky to get a ride in yesterday thank God.
Not one to really enjoy as I was on my way to Georgetown Hospital
to see a friend of mine that has been part of me for 50 years.
You know the type of guy in your life that could read a book and years later
quote a page of it to you. Went in for pneumonia and they had to intubate him

Well when that happened he had a stroke and he has been out since.
If it was not for the ride through Great falls and the park letting me think for a while
the day would have really sucked.
Yes it is all about the ride my brothers to clear ones head and soul.

You missed a good one no rain whatsoever on New Year's Day and we dodged all the heavy stuff on Wednesday with just light showers occasionally

Sounds like a great ride. We end up with family over the holidays but need to work in a ride when the weather is this nice.

Still in South Carolina, headed towards North Georgia...

We stopped at the Nottely Dam on the way down to Dahlonega...

I had a great ride home the next day, I got a good day-time look at the curb
in Clarksville where I almost jarred the 1800 out of the back of the truck in the
rain and dark on the way back from the Traxxion place...

That great big rain fly is such a good idea.   cooldude

I've been camping a number of times when it was raining so hard, all there was to do was sit in my pup tent (with no other cover to get under).

If it isn't bedtime, it gets boring in there real fast.   Grin

And the cigar smoke gets pretty bad.

Though apparently they are now selling them with a great big bong included.

Thanks, does allow us to enjoy it more! Harbor Freight 16'x20' tarp and a bunch of cheap collapsible tent poles from Academy Sports.

I've had a better idea but can't seem to ever find time to work on it. Wanna use four foot long 4 piece collapsible aluminum painters/pool pole as center (12' total height) and a parachute (waterproof ripstop nylon) with guyouts. Huge coverage, single pole system, light, compact, strong cooldude

That pipe coming out of the tent looks like our tent back in 69
when we went to the Woodstock festival .
