President Trump needs to put that video on a loop. Play it every time Ol Chucky says this is a "manufactured" crisis. Of 235,000 arrests on the border between 2017-2018. 4000 were for homicides,30,000 for sex crimes and 100,000 for assualts. Yeah this is a "manufactured" crisis. If any of you think this is not a crisis just ask Kate Steinly's family what they think of it. Or Ronil Singh, the officer killed by a illegal alien. Or the countless other families that have had their lives turned upside down by illegals. I don't want to hear anyone say "well those people could have been killed by a citizen". The fact is they WEREN'T. They were killed by people that SHOULDN'T be here. Period.....

Pelosi’s Plan For Border Security? Fix The Roads To Make It Easier To Get In https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=35&v=-cDZfv8K_kQ Unbelievable Obama's fmr. Border Patrol Chief Mark Morgan: "I was briefed every single day about the men and women who are risking their lives every day and they’re apprehending murderers, rapists, pedophiles, other violent offenders, and gang members. That is not manufactured, that is real" pic.twitter.com/doyB6lCgyq — Ryan Saavedra (@RealSaavedra) January 10, 2019 To answer a previous question Trump can do it under the military budget and it already is being done by some of the wall but to get the whole thing done and reveal the democrats he needs the funding but if he declares a state of emergency he can do it without approval of congress.

now Mike. I think a wall would be an impediment. It's just not right everywhere. Like in the Serk picture. I just wish the democrats would be honest and tell the people who voted for Trump that they can screw off, and that the democrats are only interested in pleasing the "progressives"... A wall from sea to sea would screw up a lot of things, some enumerated in this thread. A lot of things could add up to a solution, some of them have been mentioned too. A wall is appropriate some places... the border security people know where those places are. My not thinking that a sea-to-sea wall is a good idea doesn't mean I don't think that it should be funded. Trump ran and won on a wall. Who do the democrats think they are? -Mike

How does spending 25 billion dollars on a wall fix the problem ?
As reported by numerous sources, the illegal immigrants have been, and are currently climbing over, tunneling under, and slipping through walls. 5.6 billion tax payer money won't fix it !
I would hope folks would recognize that there is a need for a hell of alot more than just throwing 5.6 billion away to satisfy Trump and his petulant temper tantrum.
We need better laws, more manpower, more facilities, and the purchase of and training in the use of every technology that might assist the border patrol folks in being more effective given the restraints.
GOP had all the marbles for the last two years and they didn't do a thing to improve the situation. Wonder why ? Oh Yeah, they didn't want to give trump the 25 billion he wanted. His own party !
The GOP and the DEMS have lots of sound bytes saying we need border security but neither side has done anything about it.
Open the Government, then sit down together and work it out ! Prove to the American people that they are serious about border security on the southern border.

Walls work wherever they have been placed. Not according to me, sitting in my office in Connecticut, but according to the border patrol officers and their representatives. Did you not see the Press conference with all those bald guys with the President telling us this over and over again? The "walls" in some places are substandard and need addressing but for the most part, they serve to funnel people through the ports of entry. They do it so well that hundreds of thousands of criminals are caught at the ports of entry. The 30 foot ladders are minimal and the tunnels are fewer. Again, according to the real experts, not the unnamed experts that Pelosi keeps speaking of. These guys have names and real titles. THEY say that walls work.

So let not spend 5 Billion on a wall. Let's continue to spend 120 billion taking care of all the illegals. Building a wall, barrier or fence whatever the heck you want to call it will not stop everybody but will slow it down. Anyone with half a brain should see that. Make the wall ten feet deep in the ground and thirty feet tall with spikes or concertina (razor) wire. That would stop the majority of them. If walls don't work then why does Pelosi's house have one not to mention countless other celibrities, sports figures and politicians have walls around their homes. It isn't to keep them in. It's too keep bad people out. So why is it a bad idea to secure our country? If Trump gives in and opens the government the dems would have gotten their way and have no incentive to do anything at all. The dems keep talking about all these people who are not getting paid during the shutdown are in trouble. Fact is,when the government opens back up they will get ALL that pay back for not working. So unless they live paycheck to paycheck they will be fine.

There are some of us here that Actually understand the WHY of President Trump standing his ground. Do you remember when the dems knew they had won the house what pelosi's first order of business was going to be? Impeachment proceedings against President Trump. NEVER fergit the dems TRUE agenda. Need we go on ? As was pointed out, I work for the federal government. I'm not non-essential, so I'm still working. (And yes, the irony that I work for a three letter acronym federal agency that I think should be eliminated is not lost on me.) I'm waiting on a tax refund still from last year that I can't even check the status on because the IRS has shut down the site to track it. Parks are being taken care of by volunteers and local businesses that rely on them. Please. LEAVE it shut down. We'll get on just fine.

I finally heard it 8 years ago I could not imagine saying this but Trump gave up everything to help us. He has kept the faith and I will continue to cross party lines to help in any way I can whether speaking in town or writing letters to the editors and congress
Our NY Senator is a lying scumbag who denies all the youtube videos anyone can view, of him asking for the wall, as do all who have served more than one term. They only oppose because Trump is doing all to build it. We are not doomed but for now we are in deep doo doo.
Does it not seem every democrat would $hit their pants if Trump said not to do so? This blind hatred is the new normal and it is wrong. It obviously makes me disgusted. I long for the days of Reagan and O'Neal who fought, but could share a drink a story and work to compromise for our country. These democrats and most republicans are spoiled brats who should never have been allowed into DC in the 1st place.
Sadly, Pelosi and Schumer are seditious traitors. In a perfect world I would be someday able to piss on both of their graves, after I water Clintons. I expect that I will have to wait in line behind millions of Americans for that honor.

Here's an interesting thought.
Left wingers keep saying the solution is for the President to give in so the government can reopen. How can the shutdown be the President's fault? Congress has sent no bill to his desk to veto. He has vetoed nothing.
At this point the government shutdown is purely the result of the two houses of Congress not passing a budget. Right?
Interesting that no one is suggesting that the House should give in and pass a bill that will get the government reopened.
Closed federal goverment is really something of a misnomer, isn't it? Using elements of the government as a political football is more accurate.

Saying the men have no balls is implying they are like women. Perhaps the equivalent disrespect for the women would be to call them hyena-like.

@Willow: Maybe I'm missing something from the timeline of the events? From BusinessInsider: https://www.businessinsider.com/government-shutdown-timeline-deadline-trump-democrats-2019-1Quote: December 19: The Senate passes a clean short-term funding bill, called a continuing resolution (CR), that does not include border-wall funding but will keep the government open until February 8. Trump supported the bill at the time, Senate GOP leaders said. December 20: Trump flip-flops on the clean CR after listening to attacks from conservative TV pundits and the hardline House Freedom Caucus, and he announces that he will not sign a bill with no wall funding. Plus, Trump said that he would shutdown the government on live TV and take the 'mantle' for it. Seems that is his fault, no?

Seems like it to me...
And technically - you're correct - the Congress hasn't sent a bill to Trump to sign yet - Senate Majority Leader McConnell is not letting anything to the Senate floor that doesn't include wall funding. Which the House democrats will never do. Stalemate.

No. A stalemate takes both sides. Either side can end the stalemate or both sides can find acceptable ground of compromise. In this case there are three elements that must come to agreement; the House, the Senate, and the Executive.

Didn't the president sign a budget earlier against his wished without border funding abd say he wouldn't do it again? Well he is sticking to his guns this time. There are countless videos of dems saying they are for a border wall years ago,Pelosi,Schumer,Clinton and Obama all said it. What changed? Trump is president now and they will not let him succeed at any cost. Even the cost of American lives taken by illegal aliens.

So all we need is a bill that both the senate and the President will sign. That puts the ball directly in the House and at the feet of Pelosi. If they are concerned about the federal workers they have the key to resolution. It’s important for them to know what will pass that test, what will that require? Talking, and compromise which is what they are paid to do.
Just did some simple math. We are currently paying $84,390,000+ in salaries for the House and Senate. For that kind of money shouldn’t we expect, no demand, results? Not the results I want or the results you want but a rational reasonable compromise that moves the country forward.

Any bill involving money must originate in the house, per The Origination Clause from the US Constitution. Article I, Section 7: All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills. This was done so that the part of government closest to the people, the House of Representatives, had control of the purse strings. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Origination_Clause

Talking, and compromise which is what they are paid to do.
Any bill involving money must originate in the house, per The Origination Clause from the US Constitution. Article I, Section 7: All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills. This was done so that the part of government closest to the people, the House of Representatives, had control of the purse strings. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Origination_ClauseUnless it's the SCOTUS ruling on the ACA or paying off Iranians -RP

All this government shutdown stuff is a farce. When the Government is shut down it should start at the top. They are the ones not doing their job, they should not be paid. Start with the senate and congress, no pay, no benefits, no private or military planes to fly around in, no government limos and drivers, no pay for their staff, interns and security details, suspend all of their government accounts and credit cards, along with any government funded housing or lodging. When the government shutdown ends, no back pay for them. Also no federal taxes taken out of working peoples paychecks, hey you are shut down, you don't need our money. When Obama shut the government down it was hunting season, I have hunted this little island that is federal land, hunted there for over 20yrs. Never seen a sign of anyone else hunting it, never seen any feds patrolling it or anything. Obama shutdown, federal land closed, for the first time in over 20yrs there are now federal officers patrolling the island in a brand new boat, to make sure I don't hunt there. They spend more money shutting the government down and enforcing the shutdown than it costs to keep it open. Plus all the little folks not getting paid, are going to get paid when all is said and done.

Amen. The ones at the top should be the first to lose pay. Period.

But government shutdown is only about hurting the little folks. It has never been about really "shutting the government down". The land and parks should be the last thing shut down because when it is open it brings visitors that spend money therefore providing income to the government. If tey truly wanted a government shut dow it should happen exactly like you said. Start at the top with the morons not wanting to do their job.
