I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on getting one. Have a question though.
Being in Florida I definitely can't take the time at this point to ride in to their facility in California to have it fitted.

How many of you have opted to send in pictures and measurements? If so, were the results satisfactory?
Hate to drop that kind of cash and not have it fit properly.

Now there is a good deal for you.  I paid over $800 for my Russel seat for my 1800 Valk.

I've had 3 or 4 of them made from the pictures and measurements, all were well made and fit pretty good, except one, which I sent back, told them what I disliked and what I wanted done to it.  They returned it with the changes, no charge and they paid the freight back.  When you receive your saddle they say to ride it 500 miles and see how you like it.  If you don't they will make the changes.

I've found them to be a good company to do business with, hope this helps you out.

My many pictures helped provide a very good result.  It's the best money I've spent on my Valkyrie.  500 miles will give you a good idea, but I timed mine to received it just before IZ XVII and rode about 3300 miles from Durango to Billings.  It continued to break in during all of the 8-day trip.

For what it's worth, I got on their production schedule at the end of February and received my seat in late May.  Don't wait too long if you want yours this Spring.

Yep and I had them do custom embroidery as well as mount the pass backrest pad over a Mustang back pad.  That one is angled to compensate for the angle of the OEM sissybar so your pass. isn't leaning back sitting on her tailbone.  Learned that years ago when I put a Mustang setup on Deerslayer.  I have the best Russell ever.  Yes I sent them pics of us on Deerslayer and my measurements.  I can do Iron Butts 1140 miles in under 24, have many times done that ride even doing backroads instead of the slab, and been still good to go on arrival.  No other seat does that for me and I've had OEM, the Rood Saddle Mod, Ultimate, Corbin and Mustang. And Alaska Leather sheepskin, and Airhawk pad, and the wooden beads.

LOVE MY RUSSELL BEST $$$$ EVER and mine cost $1200 plus the seat pan and Mustang back pad and took about 2 months in the fall when things slow down for them.

I took all the pictures they asked for and followed their directions as best I could...

I had an OEM seat and then a nice Corbin one... I just couldn't stand them after
a few hours... I can sit on my funny looking RDL seat for days...

I did the "ride in", so I'm of little help. All I can say is I'm pretty cheap and I himmed and hawed about the cost for a couple years. I wish I had those 2 years back. It was the best $1376 I've ever spent. (Don't freak out, you can get them much cheaper)

I'm about ready to pull the trigger myself.

I'm not sure what I want to do about the backrest. I currently have a Utopia, that I like. I could have them recover it. The backrest that Russell offers looks huge, but comfortable.

Does anyone with the R have any input? Does it fold down easily? It looks like it folds down flat, not back then down like the Utopia....

Thanks

I think the utopia is a better design. That said, I’ve never actually used one.

Thanks for all the feedback guys!

I have two stock seats. Both are the one piece I/S seats. One has what I believe is the add-on Utopia driver's backrest.

I'm going to give them a call and see what I can find out what my options are. Their website is showing taking orders in February but doesn't say what the delivery dates would be.

Plan on taking a few long trips so would love to have a comfy seat!

Just last week I spoke to Mark at HARTCO Seats. He also takes your measurements, and weight for you and your passenger. I havent received the seat yet, he says about 30 days. The 3 piece seat for my I/S was just over 600. Also ,he's in florida. I've looked at the RDL, but just couldnt break loose of that much money.

Hi Bob. I believe that Feb date is when they'll be working on your seat if the order is placed today. It takes 2-3 weeks to complete and ship. Don't wait too long, their dance card fills up fast!!

If you have a passenger that rides regularly with you, you will want pics of her on the bike also.  cooldude

Yea, I just got off the phone with them and he told me what he needed. In between the time I looked at the site late yesterday and till I talked to him he said he processed a bunch of orders and the Feb 24th date has now gone till the 2nd week of March!

Going to do the standard stock seat and see what happens.

It folds down, and it's on a hunk of metal that inserts horizontally into the pillion so you can pull it out and stow it without tools.  I made some adjustments to mine which I'm not sure you can do with the Utopia. Also I like it set low for lumbar support, but move it up for pass. thigh clearance when she's back there.  Can do that quickly w/o tools.  BTW I had a Utopia early on, on Deerslayer. Sold it long ago - now have an Ultimate on that bike with their backrest.  I wouldn't go with the Utopia but stay with the RDL backrest, having had both.  But then this is a Tourer not an IS.  And I could be FOS - not the first time.

You can try all the other tricks and fixes for your sore butt and comfort, get a day long and you will save money in the long run. I have them on the tourer and the St. Do the pictures like they want.
