Say What You mean Mean What You Say

My fender mounted brake light quit, but the trunk brake lights still worked, so I pulled the rear fender section and the wire had pulled loose. I did the supervalk mod a while back so a fender mounted light tail light had to be installed, so I split the source wires to each section behind the side panel and added weatherproof quick connectors to both the rear fender and trunk sections. I did the connections by twisting the wires together and added shrink tube...this time-ALL CONNECTIONS are SOLDERED before the shrink tube!! BTW...I use the "BACK OFF" flashing module for the fender brake light and LED light bar.

Anyway...Here's the reason for the post!...I thought that while I had the fender apart I would add a brake light wire down to the license plate mount and add the 9" LED brake light bar. I had some 1/4" black acrylic so I cut it to the shape of the combined light bar and license plate. The acrylic piece is bolted to the plate holder. I would like to replace the OEM bulb as well "IF" I can find one that would be a noticeable improvement

What OEM bulb?  The fender (IS knockout) tail light ll57?

There used to be two different LED arrays that were plug and play to the OE tail light 1157 socket. (one cost more and had more LEDs)

But I think only one of them remains.  (I can't remember, it's been so long, but I may have had to shave just a sliver or two of material from the inside of the lens to get the LED array to fit in there.

Never heard of these.

I have the Radianz, and it's brighter than the 1157, but the 1157 (when new, not a 20yo bulb) is not that bad of a light by itself.

Finally, the std 1157 bulb can be upgraded to a much brighter 2d filament brake light with conventional 2357 bulb, but on an 1157 bulb, the brake light filament should last about 1500 hours, and the much brighter 2357 brake light filament will last only about 120 hours.

But see:  https://www.sylvania-automotive.com/products/interior-and-exterior-bulbs/long-life/2357_longlife.jsp

All those look like they would add a lot of light. I am going to hunt around to see if I can find just the LED module without the Lens...I would not go for the white lens option in any case.
The 1157 looks pretty lame compared the light bar that I added. The LED's are a sharp on/off when flashing, which IMHO is way more noticable. I might go with the 2357 just to see how much better it is...probably for the trunk lights as well. The Light bar is a good backup in case the 1157(2357) burns out anyway.
Thanks for all the info  cooldude

The first Amazon link is just the LED array.

I would not want clear or smoked lenses either.... to me if you want those, the whole bike needs changed, not just the tail light.  And I like red and amber lenses better anyway.

My supervalk came with the little box converting the rear signals to run-turn-brake too, and with red rear signal lenses which are required for full time running in back (not front ambers).
