Have not done big bend

1  did million dollar highway with Taz on no sleep, after riding down the west road from Telluride to Delores to Durango, would like to do it again probably would remember it better  That was a long ass day
2  Beartooth was great on a sunny day
Chief Joseph was good but huge tar snakes take away some of the joy
3  Icefields we did in a car, Would like to return on a Valkyrie
4  Going to the Sun better east to west IMHO did both in car on same trip to canada as Icefields
5  The Taconic Parkway in fall with reds oranges and yellows

Honorable mention to me are roads that take me somewhere in my mind
The ascent north from Muir Woods in California
Zion but hiking and walking it is even better than riding it
Cherahola
20 across Nebraska with its rolling hills after hill
Most every road in WV was really enjoyable to me
12 (Lolo Pass)  Snow at the top, pouring rain all the way to Washington, still top 10

Will someday get back to finish 16 in WV and want to ride the Cabot Trail one summer  Also would love to ride New Zealand after watching Leathel's posts

When you get to Nova Scotia be sure to take tour of the fortress of Lewisburg. Peggy’s cove worth seeing. The “tidal bore” was great fun

Meat cove if one is “going all the way”

If time allows the Gaspe peninsula (in the area) is highly recommended

Great list so far

Some mentioned here Ive ridden several or more times such as Going To The Sun, Beartooth, Chief Joseph, and Icefields...and they are all spectacular. As are many others such as those in Kentucky and West Virginia in particular that I had the chance to  ride a couple years ago. As far as my "favorites" though, they would be the less known ones that I've known of for years and ride many times, or ones that I just happened to find along the way in my travels. These have much less traffic, few or no tourist traps along the way, and plenty of curves, mountains,  streams and lakes, or other spectacular scenery such as rolling farmland or barren tundra along the way. Examples of these would be Hwy 6 from Lumby BC acrtoss Arrow Lake and through to Nakusp BC (probably my all time #1), Little Flowery Trail Road from Chewela WA up to hwy 12, Hwy 3 from Hope BC all the way through Boundary Country and the Kootenays to SE BC,  the route through Colville Wa and across Nothern ID, Hwy 5A from Princeton BC to Merrit BC, and countless other little gems that I can't remember the names of.

Like Bighead says...the next out of the way route I just happen upon for the first time will probably become a favorite.

#1, #2, and #5 for sure but then I live out here. Highway to the sun is in my future. Don't rule out state highway 36 across Kansas. New asphalt, rolling and windy through Kansas farmland with a town about every 60 to 75 miles. A more relaxed option to the Super slab.

Mike,

I have a trip out west planned this year and we are return through Kansas.  I looked on the map and did some searches and I could not find State Route 36.  Found US 36 but not a state route.  Can you give me some guidance on towns, etc.?

Thanks.

All great roads mentioned.

I rode the St. Joe River Scenic Byway in Idaho about 10 years ago and it’s stuck in my memory. Remote, no traffic, scenery following a river, great curves. Bit of gravel for the last bit but was so worth it.

my bad, yea that's it. actually goes across MO to Hannibal as well. I think there was 2 stop lights and 1 stop sign going across MO. Maps aren't clear but it goes right through St. Joseph and hardly realize it. in the west there are free camp grounds set up by communities like at Fair grounds, Rodeo grounds,  or parks. I camped in Belleville I believe and then just north of Lebanon, KS is a monument marking the geographical center of the U.S. Great photo opp....
