It appears that this dumb arse was upser that his call in to go order was not ready when he arrived. He gets mad and started yelling and screaming at employees at a local IHOP, then pulls a weapon and opens fire inside the restaurant stricking and killing the manager and wounding the managers son also an employee. The wounded employee just happened to be carrying aweapon of his own and shoots the perp dead. That is the only good to come out of this situation. If he hadnt been carrying there surely would have been more victims. He got what he deserved. A tragedy that this happened over some pancakes. It has been reported that the perp had been known to police in the past for shooting at others, with no convictions for it. That shouldn’t happen. You wont hear this on national news because someone legally carrying a firearm saved other patrons from being harmed. http://www.waff.com/2019/01/17/police-confirm-shooting-south-huntsville-ihop/

It's worse. It was reported in the news and the report I saw said " it was unclear how the shooter was killer". How could it be unclear. It was clear they didn't want to say how he was killed.

just proves that this world is F'ed up! Near Barron WI up north a psycho just so happened a few months ago kidnap a young 13 year old girl. She escaped recently and was fine but after both her parents were shot point black range in their own home with the 13 year old watching months ago. Bail set at 5 million dollars. Why waste the time on court proceedings? Just wish when he went looking for her and did not find her at the neighbors house down the street for I heard that they were armed just in case the psycho shows up looking for her. ONE bullet to the head and gone forever! Seems to be like a fairy tale made up world, but unfortunately is a BAD EVIL fairy tale world being true. So sad!

I also wish someone would have shot the a-hole dead. But, maybe they can get some knowledge from him about how these evil SOB's think.

I'm glad someone was there prepared to deal with the criminal shooter. Remember when seconds count the police are only minutes away. From the linked story: in self-defense of others Interesting phrase, no?

Yes and the one who acted in self defense was shot before he fired the fatal round into the perp.

This was also from it : “Police say it stared when 25-year-old Roderick Turner went to IHOP to pick up a carryout order. “ You would think people who write for a newspaper would be better.

I see you are more worried of a missed T in the statement than the story as a whole. Also BTW it is not a newspaper. It is a local news channel and probably dictated on Dragon or some such other device.

Yeah, I caught the stared as well but I passed on it as a typo and poor editing. That reference of self-defense for others is clearly not understanding the meaning of words.

Or just shoot him dead or go old school wild west 1800s style and hang by a rope.... My daughter is up in that area of Eau Claire WI and this past year she saw some creep sitting outside in his car for over 2 hours in front of her house scoping out the house/area. My daughter, alone in the house at the time 3 other roommates gone, called the police after an hour or so as well as her big male friend. Male friend showed up before police and as soon as her friend showed up, the male sitting in his car left ASAP. I guess young female trafficking is up in that area and has happened before my daughter said knowing of one younger girl kidnapped and missing. Police showed up soon afterwards and said she did the right thing by calling them up, just do it sooner next time. Who knows if that guy was a weirdo/psycho, but if it prevents another kidnapping, well worth the police phone call.

I had a local police officer tell me " our job is to just clean up the mess when we get there " . At all times we must be able to defend our lives ourselves . Leo's wont always be around to do so. I carry openly and carry concealed at all times. I conceal a 9mm and open carry my 1911 45 acp . I am asked repeatedly " why do you feel you need to carry that cannon around " , I always tell them " because a cop is too heavy" . Never a response to that answer,...so far . Ride safe Roadog

If I see a perp scoping out our place like that reported above, I'll strap on an open carry and go out and ask what's going on. Might even strap on, with my Galco chest carry rig, the really intimidating S&W 500 magnum - truly the definitive HAND CANNON. Nearly three times the power of a .44 magnum. I had a road rager follow the wife and me into a gas station in Salida looking to make trouble. Changed his mind right away when he saw my open carry .357 magnum. I've concluded that on the road, away from home, when alone or with the wife I'll open carry. Discourages road rage. Not needed when in a group ride. But then I conceal carry always.

yah, too bad I am 3+ hour drive away from daughter way up north. Just glad nothing happened for pretty sure was a weirdo and not just parking in front of her house on a whim for a couple hours. It was sort of funny though when my ex-neighbor down another road got a talking to from local police officer in our small town when the neighbors up the street called police on him. He was parked on our street sitting in his car for about 1 hour in front of neighbors house up the street due to his home being inspected for his home sale at the time. I guess never know if friend or foe??? After explaining himself to the only police officer in our town, the officer was still not too friendly stating him to move on out which I found odd after identifying him as our neighbor living there for 10+ years on next road over. I guess he should have parked on his own street in front of his own house? similar thing happened to my kid when age 16 cutting thru a bunch of neighbors backyards (thru an empty field really) from street in our subdivision about 200 yards away. I got a knock on our door one night from the county sheriff asking where my son was at much to my shock. I said out with friends in town. Well, less than 1 hour later I find out him coming home that his girlyfriends (just friends) one of their cars was parked on side street 200 yards from our house on other side of subdivision going out for a walk just talking. Police identified the car calling that girls parents and said where is your daughter at. They said out with my son giving officer his name. Well, that is how officer knocked on my door shortly thereafter since in same subdivision and all 200 yards away. I ripped into my kid stating he should know better than that since I guess the local neighbors down the street saw some suspicious people walking thru/by their backyards up along the hillside and called the police. Told him to stay on the city street (no sidewalks) from now on vs. cutting thru people's property even if probably not even on their property since where he cut thru was owned by the village more of just woods/brushy area no housing development on it but near neighbors backyards. Never know, one of my neighbors if gun toting might have fired a bullet at them, one never knows???

Definitely not needed in a group ride, at least not down here in Florida. On any given ride we are well protected so to speak.

I've been so puzzled by reading about that poor Wisconsin family. What I've read is the Daughter's dog woke her as the perp shot in the door. Then mother stayed with the daughter while the father went downstairs to investigate and was shot and killed.
Then the perp came up the stairs, put the Mother and that poor girl in the tub and shot the mother with a shotgun while she was in the tub with the daughter.
Where were that families guns? Did the father arm himself before he went down stairs? The perp had a shotgun and could have killed the father as he became visible coming down the stairs even if he was armed I guess. But the Mother and Daughter heard him being shot, where was the Mother's firearm? The Daughter was 13, where was her firearm? My boys had their own firearms in their own rooms by that age and would have used them. What happened with this family? If the Mother had been armed she could still be alive and the Daughter would not have gone through so much hell.
I just don't understand how some teenager (maybe 20 year old) could have got the drop on the whole family in their own home? Virtually everyone I know owns firearms and knows how to use them, is it not the same everywhere? I guess they could have had a convicted felon in the house and couldn't have firearms which is about the only way this makes sense.
Prayers for the family and all victims of criminals.

Some people are just not comfortable with guns. I have a daughter who has been around guns her entire life. She has shot guns. But she is not, nor probably never will be comfortable using one. Let's not forget who is the bad guy here.

is it not the same everywhere?
No, it's not. (obviously)
Some have just never been around firearms, and I think never been exposed to the kind of thing that suddenly makes getting one and learning how to use it make sublimely good sense (epiphany). Some may be committed anti-firearms people, but I think most unarmed people aren't that.
I was never the smallest guy in my class, but I was closer to him than the biggest guys. I had things happen to me in my life that showed me the wisdom of; God made all men, but Sam Colt made them equal. I once had a (deranged, but almost twice my size) guy spend a half hour trying to kill me. I had Libyans visit my wedding.
But, while not my immediate family, my extended family was immersed in the gun and hunting culture, and that became very interesting to me at an early age. I shot my first muzzle-loader and had to have my uncle hold up the barrel for me. And dad was a former Marine and expert on the Garand and Carbine and shotgun, but he didn't get his own guns until I did (and he and mom got their permits). (But he could fight, and I mean Golden Gloves and Marines, and two times (when I was young) I saw him defend his family in about 5 seconds and done. Both with multiple men.)
But even if you were never exposed to the culture, and blessed enough to never have anything bad happen to you or family or friends in a way to affect you, don't you read? Don't you watch the TV? Hasn't the pure randomness of evil striking anyone (especially good people) sunk in? Don't you owe a responsibility to protect your family (wife too).
But you also have to have the will and disposition to fight back (with or without firearms). A combat mindset when called for. Where was the baseball bat? If your front door is shot in, you don't go downstairs unarmed to investigate (if that's what he did, it was poster-child child fat, dumb and happy).
PS: That guy should hang. They continue to have problems finding the right drugs for lethal injection. Good rope can be found anywhere.

Reminds me - the Nazi war criminals, found guilty at Nuremburg, requested to be shot in dress uniforms as befits military men. They were denied and hung as befits criminals. That is, those that didn't chicken out and take cyanide. I think hanging befits that a-hole in WI. In the town square. And don't snap his neck - just put him on a stool, and let the girl's relatives kick it out. (Not the girl, she doesn't need more trauma.)

So those who are uncomfortable with guns may have made a conscious choice to die comfortably rather than live with the discomfort of taking another's life.
It is a legitimate choice on their part.

My daughter work for layer firm and she is the only one it the office about 75% of the time. here husband and i finale talked into getting handgun permit. She was raised up around gun was shooting at the age of 4 with rifles and handguns. as a small child old dad taught he the danger of mishandling of a gun and demonstrated the damage one could do. there is one thing i sure would not want to the one in front of cause she don't miss. But as we are talking about her carrying she says the gun is empty.........SAY WHAT i say empty you might as well pull out a water pistol as to carry empty. she laughs and says if and when i have to pull it out and that doesn't turn them around i will just pistol whip them. and conversation when. the next day she said that what we talked about made a lot since that she loaded and one round ready to go. like i told her better to be ready then to need it and not be ready.
