It's long, but worth it if you can find the time to watch it. Stumbled on it last night on YouTube.     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJgillo35KA

I don't know, guess I'm too old.

2412 miles in 35 hours = just over 68 mph.

He had to stop along the way for gas and personal reasons, so average speed must be higher.

Sleep deprived and speeding on the highway?

For a patch and bragging rights?

I guess.

All the youtube commentators were happy.

Got to get past the cross country part. After that, it's awesome scenery riding.

Been watching that this morning, definitely looks like a fun ride!

Thanks for posting it, worth a watch and as Mr. Burner pointed out don't let the CC50/Bun Burner Gold part at the beginning turn you off...

He picked a good bike for the job. 50 MPG and a 7.5 gallon tank. I'm not sure my internal tank would go 300 miles before it needed draining.

Having made several 1K+ mile rides, the longest I remember being 1241 miles within 24 hours, I can assure you that the last 1/3rd of those trips was not good scenic viewing time.   Fatigue sets in and the rider needs to stay focused on the task at hand.    My only reason for ever going on such rides was having a long way to go and a short time to get there situation.    Would I do it for fun?  I think not.
But, everyone has the right to do their thing when it comes to challenges like this.   Just remember, it's not about the destination, it's all about enjoying the journey.  Be safe out there.

Have done two IBA runs successfully.   I have always loved motorcycling in any form or fashion.   I have also always loved motorcycle challenges.    I like setting goals and doing my best to complete the tasks.    A long distance haul is very challenging physically, and mentally.    I forces me to keep my motorcycle in great mechanical shape.   I love the planning, getting ready, packing, and execution of my plan.   I always start a motorcycle challenge with the attitude that as long as I can execute and complete my plan I will give it all I got.    But if I get too tired, or confused I will stop.     No shame in not completing the plan.        If I complete the ride it makes me feel good about my riding ability.    And yes, bragging rights come with it.

My post was not about the Iron Butt cross country ride. If you don't want to see that, skip to 3:20 and then see the tour with fantastic footage.

I enjoy a pleasant ride but I also enjoy meeting a challenge.  If you never push yourself to the edge you'll have no idea where it is.   Smiley

The average speed on most of I-10 from Florida to Texas is 80. The designate velocity (Hi Carl) is 70 but you'll get run-up-on repeatedly at 70. There seems to be two speeds, roll with the semi's at 70-72 or roll with traffic at 80. Speed limit from Kerrville to El paso IS 80 and average speed doesn't change much from NM line to San Diego.

Yeah, guys, I get it.

I am in no way diminishing the enjoyment, feeling of accomplishment, or challenge of a long distance motorcycle ride.  Nor am I tarnishing anyones patch collection.

I love cruising down a highway at 80+ mph as much as anyone on this board.

I just don't see how 35 straight hours of riding proves anything except endurance, foolhardy, IMHO.

35 straight hours of anything is extreme, never mind motorcycling.

When Albert Einstein made that quote, I'm pretty sure motorcycling while sleep deprived, was not what he was speaking on.   But I could be wrong, I often am.

Dan, I've loved all your posts over the years and you have my envy and jealousy.  And your patch collection was hard earned, filled with challenge and joy.

Willow, again, just IMHO, the gentlemen on the 35 hour trip fell over the edge way before he ended it and was lucky to make it through.
