I finally  did it ,  replaced my  top of the line 50" plasma  TV  from 2006 with a top of the line  LG   OLED  and I was worried  it would not be as good  , oh my god ,  it is truly amazing  and I got it for $1999 plus tax .

If you are hesitant about buying an Oled  , don't be   , it will blow your mind  , the  picture quality .

By chance , the movie was playing , Gravity , when I turned it on  and we could not take our eyes off the screen , it looks 3D  ,   as does most of the  movies/shows   on the TV .

I believe one of the reviews described it as " drop dead gorgeous "  and I do agree

I also purchased a pair of Klipsch Forte 3 speakers  to go with the new TV
Maybe I am set for another 10 years , maybe not  Smiley

the only issues i had with mine are after a year or so I started seeing white sparkles all over the screen, well after playing around with the settings, i changed from vivid to normal the sparkles went away. seems if you watch a show which is high def and the tv wants to upscale the picture sometimes the super tiny little mirrors wont move fast enough and there are millions of them in the chip, and will cause these sparkles. not an issue unless it does it all the time and you will have to take it in and have the chip replaced. i was pissed off at first but now i am happy again, i gave 3 grand for mine, you got a good deal..

You'll probably be sitting in front of it for ten years!  2funny

I think about upgrading my 32 inch 720p TCL that we got nine years ago
sometimes... The boss bought a bunch (nine or so) of these to put in the
office to use as terminals at Christmas...

We bought a 50” plasma about 10 years also. It’s pretty awesome. I don’t know if my eyes are good enough to see the difference in something better.

I have 2 32 inch LED / LCD TVs, one I bought when that size was about $600, the other I got when Mom passed away. Haven't felt the need to upgrade yet.

I keep things until they blow up beyond repair.  (not including wives)

I have to say, moving from a tube TV to a top quality 1080p LCD (with hi def signal) was a knock my socks off event.

There may be better, but I've only got so many pair of socks.  And it hasn't blown up yet.

I have a 200 inch drop down screen with a 4k projector that also does upscaling. Designed the system myself and have 13.2Ch 800 watt dolby atomos  surround sound, all Klipsch speakers around a Dennon AVRX-6400. I never go to the movies in town.

Well all depends on what you want. Its in my basement and I am not watching TV. I am in a home theater. I have a 50 inch oled upstairs and I end up spending all my time watching the projection. I see almost no difference in picture quality. I am not tearing down what you have, its great as I have the same thing upstairs. Only one it has to please is me and no,, its all new within the last year.  Wink  BUT,, i also spent a ton more money.

what a deal, only 2 grand.... Shocked

I think I bought 6+ TV's for that.... Grin

going though from a 27 inch picture tube to 32 inch flat screen modern Tv (similar picture size) to my now 50 inch TV is surely better.  Now, I can almost read the guide menu having larger print in my old worn out eyeballs.

I see most 65 inch on up Tv's are still a pretty penny while most 55 inch on down can be had for under 300 bucks on sale.

Boob tubes have come a long way for sure.  Have a look at TCL 6 series if you're penny penching  like me.  Admittedly not as nice as your LG OLED, but BIG bang for the money.  Just make sure you get one with a decent panel, some QC issues there that they have ironed out since first releases.  Read the reviews, C-Net and PC Magazine Editors choice in 2018.  Saw they're around $600 for a 55" at Best Buy.  Dolby HDR, 96 contrast control zones.

Here's one of many

You bought an awesome TV!

A friend of mine is into projection and is very happy with it.

I just refuse to pay the price for what is classified as better, due to how fast the electronic world changes. I just bought a 65" LED TV last week For $700 Canadian. It has most of the features more expensive units have and built in Roku which I prefer. For me, I literally can't see a picture that is 2 or 3 times better for the 2 or 3 times the price. Buy at Costco, they double the warranty, $60 extended warranty gets you another 3 years totaling 5 yrs coverage.

I don't watch a lot of TV but I do like to watch the hockey game Saturday night and a movie now and then.
Enjoy your systems fella's!!

Just saw an 8K by Samsung......what a picture!!!

We bought this one since this thread started, it came yesterday and is still in the box:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G9W9ZR9/?coliid=I1PTVSZARMDLN9&colid=2FRN2RPBNLVJD&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

We have to stream stuff in Standard Definition because of our slow Internet connection. "8" is way
more K's than we can use...  2funny

With a soundbar it works just fine.

I looked at a bluetooth soundbar, but haven't gotten it. I like teevee to be on as low a volume
as can be and still hear it. But... when watching movies, it seems that there's no place to set
the volume so that people talking aren't too quiet or explosions aren't too loud. A teevee or
some kind of sound system that had adjustable "dynamic range" might fix this?

Some movies are worse than others.

The Revenant (about old Hugh Glass and the bear) was all filmed in natural light winter, so it took a while to get used to.  But the sound was so strange, you can hardly make out what is being said half the time no matter what the volume was.  It was like they all had to have rocks in their mouth for realism (esp Tom Hardy).

I like the sound low too.  I always sit with the remote in my lap, to bump it up and down during the movie.

And to mute all commercials.

I've heard about DVRs (and cell phones, and smart phones, and GPSs, and laptops, and notebooks, and wideband, and self driving cars, and all kinds of amazing things).  I never had any of them though.   Grin

I still think self cancelling turn signals, cordless phones and red dot sights are pretty cool.
