I just learned that there's an Indycar race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin next month.  Is anyone going to that?  I was there for the first F1 race in 2012 and it's an awesome track.  I'm thinking of heading down to Texas for the Indycar race, or the Moto GP race in April.  I've read that those bikes hit over 215 MPH on the back straight.

Been to Austin MotoGP last 4 years, back straight to turn 12, speed 200 plus, best to see the speed and braking into the hairpin

I went to the first GP also-I walked around turn 1-4-5-not a great spectator track compared to some---but an absolute rush to ride...RIDESMART--$400 a day and worth it --best race track in the world according to most

This is interesting because we can now compare lap times for Indy vs. F1 vs. Moto GP.  It's rare for F1 and Indycars to run on the same track; I don't think it's happened for a while.  Here are the fastest laps for all 3 series:

Moto GP - 2:02
Indycar - 1:46
Formula 1 - 1:32

Those F1 cars sure are fast!

So turn 12 would also be the place to see more crashes?  Protective barriers/fences for the curious?

If they ran NASCAR there, probably so!

Very few crashes, huge run off at the corner, best place to view crashes is turn 1, uphill from start line, hairpin, fast downhill to turn 2.....

A good place to sit is turn 9 grandstand, you can watch them come through the chicane in front of you, down to the hairpin and along the back straight.
Been to 2 F1 races there now, wish I could go every year!

Nascar sucks these days. Who wants to watch a bunch of cars go in a left hand circle? Not me. Too many damn restrictions these days also.

Nice photos!  I saw some video of the practice sessions on YouTube.  Looks like it will be a great race next month.  Indycars might not be as fast as F1 but they sure sound better!

F1 cars sound miserable since they switched to hybrids.  A friend attended an F1 race during the first hybrid year and said the tires actually made more noise than the 'power units'.  The last F1 race I attended was the opening of COTA 2012, when they still ran 19,000 RPM V8s, and the sound was awesome.
