Today was the second day where we were supposed to get into the high 40's /50's, and it is supposed to snow (again) tomorrow, so I thought I would ride my 50 mile loop to burn some gas out of the tank. Cold front is coming in (and in fact had passed by KCI already), but I thought a jean jacket with a sweatshirt underneath would be enough - boy was I wrong !!!! It was still nice getting out on a ride, and I need to get my Pingel rebuilt anyway, so now I'm off to get some gas cans and some 5/16 fuel line to drain the rest out while it is still tolerable and before the good riding weather gets here.
Weather was nice and sunshiney - just COLD...

My experience is always to err on wearing more gear than less in cool/cold weather. I've never been too hot in my fall, winter, early spring rides.
Last warm day (60) a guy with a Tshirt pulled up next to me. I was also in a Tshirt, but it was covered by my textile jacket with two vents open.

I do have a question. Since I have the tank off already, are there some other things I should do, like maybe replace the air filter ?

Thinking ahead to any kind of hookup (GPS, USB, phone, switches, etc), some have run a decent gauge piece of wire under there, so if you ever decide to add something later, you don't have to pull the tank again. And hide the ends.
Make sure all your air box hookups are tight.
Clean out old dirt.
I'm not keen on pulling my tank, so when I do, I always stick in a new (OE) filter. (don't lose/forget the skinny gasket)

Yes on the filter. Clean and check anything you can while in there. I don't like removing the tank either, so I do what I can when it's off. I always add 1 layer more than I think I need in the spring or fall. Or, I will throw something in a bag till it stays warm just in case.

I was listening to NPR while riding home the other night. There was a program on there about words and sayings. Evidently there is a Norwegian saying “ There is no bad weather, only bad clothes”

The air filter definately needed changing. Was fishing my GPS wire through the frame , but lost the screw on the right side front frame cover. I'll go back out to the garage after I've warmed up some and see if I can find it.

my experience with my tolerance level is much past 45 mph basically hwy. riding anything under 50 degrees dress WARM like riding in 30 degree temps. Although if the sun is out and 50 non windy, it is very nice for me. Some who drive longer distances than say 50 miles at one time much below 38 degrees have a higher tolerance level than me and I can take the cold fairly well. I prefer riding in the 50s for temps over the 90s anytime.

I have never heard of rebuilding a Pingel. Do they sell a kit. What problem is yours having that it needs to be done?
