First off I must say, I never lose my awe of these bikes. The best Hiway cruiser I've ever had. Smooth at any speed. I had a meeting in Phoenix yesterday and rode the bike. It's been a couple months since I've rode anything over a hundred miles in a day. It was nice to have a good ride. Which brings me to last night. I was coming home in the dark for the last hundred miles. Thankfully my night vision is still pretty good and I don't mind a night ride at all. It was exhilarating cruising thru the pitch black desert at up to 95 mph. I know the road pretty well and we have no deer in the area. Possibly a coyote or 2. I never road beyond my skill set . But it was exciting for sure. And it got me thinking do most of you still get a buzz pushing it once in a while ? There was a time that I would push it much more. But as I've gotten older doing it less and less.

A couple times a year I'll run her up to 100 on some back road just to see if she still can.
She always does. I'm just not interested in doing any more than that any more.

It may or may not be the exception when I don't do the ton when I'm out on one of my Valks... 

The Helix however I never do the ton on... 

Although it has become less important to me than it used to be. I used to have a personal policy when my MR2 Turbo was my daily driver every time I got on the freeway on a certain nice long entrance ramp I always did the ton before merging...

I really have not much interest anymore doing much over 85 mph.  I get more of  a thrill doing 0 to 70 mph as fast as I can and do that often 99% of the time blowing away everyone else at a stop light just for the heck of it.

            Truth be told I can NOT go fer even a short ride when Phatt Ghurl and I don't git the urge/itch/feeling that WE gotz to Not Only hit the ton But in fact exceed it somewhat.  Had a ride today and-yeah-ton were done!  RIDE SAFE.

Yep, my gal will still do triples....and that's all I'll say. Just don't underestimate old guys.

Older?  Don't do high speeds anymore?  We are not peddling the thing! Just twist that thing on the right it is quite easy.      shut up, I'm getting older too, but with the Wife on, we were said to be doing 113 about 5 weeks ago on the Relive app. Speedo said way more.

I made the mistake of dodging a dog while negotiating an s curve two years ago and ended with a broken leg. I was riding on my personal edge. Took a lot longer to recover than it use to. Now I have a new respect for being healthy, and realize if I ride on the edge and something else isn't as it should be, or throw in one unknown variable, I might munch it,, even me! So I don't push like I used to.

While I understand the rush, it is no longer an issue with me. I do find that I just enjoy the ride more when I concentrate on smooth and precise rather that speed.

At my age I am just no longer in a rush and am more relaxed about riding. I also find that I really like the quietness and smoothness of the Valkyries and Gold Wings more and more.

I also want quiet less traveled roads, small towns and no traffic and a red light occasionally is a nice break.

I have always enjoyed riding, but enjoy it more now than ever.

On weekend rides out  on the back roads, if I haven't broken the century mark, well it was just a ride. On most of "those" I'll find a spot and twist the donkeys tail.

Back in the day when the Riley children hospital ride let you go out on the Indy 500 track and take a lap (they still do) I ran mine up to 140. That was the only time. Felt like my face was peeling off in the wind.
Now they wont let you go above a reasonable speed.

The first time that I wound one of the Phat Girls up and over the Century mark it put a huge ear to ear grin on my face.

I regularly get up to 100. A lot of times when I get off work I will see if I can hit it from the stoplight to a gully about a quarter mile down the road. Doing 95 in the pitch black desert was more adrenaline producing though.

I don't intentionally go as fast as I once did as often as I once did but almost every time I'm out I may inadvertently bring it into triple digits.

Some of us cannot afford a ticket with insurance high enough already with 2 teenage drivers, etc.

Fricking hit a deer last year first time ever doing 3K damage filing comprehensive claim and a-holes jacked up my rates  14% on all 4 vehicles on top of insult to injury having to pay my 500 dollar deductible.

I do drive regularly 70 mph as says on my Valk speedo, but that is really like 65 or 66 mph but still fast enough to get me a ticket if the police so chooses in a 55 mph speed zone since I do drive a tad bit faster than the speed of traffic on rural hwys.
