Am I the only one who's just gonna stop watching the long tracks? Same old same old. A long line of cars racing against an empty lane, step out and go to the back. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Some crashes with zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz the rest of the time.

It's not racing, it's a modern chariot race with many spectators hoping for wrecks.

I suspect today's Cup race will be the same.  I tape them all and watch the beginning and the end and maybe speed through the rest to see if there is anything exciting like Brad's roof flap falling off.  Grin  I wish for the days when Richard Petty would win by a lap or two.

Gone too commercial with not much racing anymore. NASCAR has their nose shoved in aspect of car build. It's almost a circus during pre-race. They have ruined racing as we knew it. I don't bother anymore.

My wife and I both raced stock cars in the 80's and watched every NASCAR race with enthusiasm. When they started changing the rules to slow them down, tone down the drivers and make them more congenial  to gain a better class of viewers, they ruined what the sport started out to be. A bunch of good ole boys with shade tree hot rods having fun.  Instead of bleeping out bad words, they started fining them for cussing W.T.H. They even issue cookie cutter air wrenches to the crews. Everyone is equal and everyone gets a ribbon. Now it's just a four hour commercial with a parade in between. Just not interesting anymore.

Interesting views, all cooldude I actually think it's because of the superspeedways themselves, and FWIW I really DON'T like it when "the big one" comes. They were hitting 200mph in the Infinity Series yesterday, I don't need more speed-I need more racing. IMHO, speed is for the open wheel cars, and bumping and banging is for stock cars. (I'll call 'em stock cars until NASCAR changes the name to NASA) From the start, there were too many good people dying in wrecks that they'd walk away from now, and that was at under 100mph. Now we have giant high banked tracks with one preferred line and one or two trains of cars racing. I could fix Talladega in one off-season-bulldoze the banking until it was flat, and put in more bathrooms  2funny
Tracks like Bristol I love-it's slow enough for some aggressive behavior in relatively safe cars. Didn't mind a bit when they added road tracks, I can't count the hours I spent at Road America in the 60's & early70's watching Can-AM races, along with various versions of SCCA, WERRA and other racing. Amazing drivers like Mark Donahue, Hobbs & Bell, Bobby Rahal, Peter Revson, Sertes, McClaren, Jim Hall, Andretti, you name it. Early Can Am was almost "run what ya brung" and the speeds were faster than the Indy cars of the same period-on a ROAD course. Good times. The road determined top speed and downforce was a new toy to be played with, even experimenting with skirts and fans to create a vacuum.
I want to see cars come back to the pits with black donuts and fresh colors on them, but with intact drivers grinning like Junior Johnson.
Yellow and I are pleased with how the first Stage finished, hoping Kyle can do it again on Stage 2  cooldude

And the big one takes out much of the field with under 10 to go.   Sad
Probably be a Hamlin/Busch/Logano shootout for the finish?

Sigh. They finally get it all cleaned up and restarted. Got a couple of laps in, and Stenhouse wrecks a bunch more, earning the Montoya/Patrick Trophy  Angry And on the restart lap, with Hamlin and my man Kyle leading, Boyer makes a rookie move and wipes out a few more cars. There's maybe a dozen cars left in the field for the next restart. 2nd OT coming up.

I'm not too much of a fan of Daytona and Talledega races, but most of the rest are usually pretty good. I especially like the road courses Smiley  - really makes the drivers show off some skill.
