Are our bikes vulnerable to the dismantling market? I believe most of use would have to admit our individual bikes would bring more in parts than selling outright in today’s market. I’m wondering if people like Pinwall’s are having similar thoughts? I think the Interstates would be really at risk if this caught on. Just thinking out loud.

I think it's been going on at a steady pace for some time.  The market is like that.

Call Pinwall and ask what they'll give for a Valk interstate.  (with or without shipping to them)

It's the natural progression on mass-produced bikes, I suppose. You can take a SOHC CB750 with a stuck engine, throw it off a cliff, and still get $150 or more for a titled neck  angel

I assume it's all about the money.  If a vehicle's resale value drops too much below the value of the major parts, more end up being sold in pieces.  Some never get to that point -- you don't see many Ferraris in wrecking yards.

Good point. It also depends a lot on parts availability. If you have a car or bike that's still loved but key parts can't be replaced, all of a sudden it's real easy to consider cutting one up to save your own.

If you have to ask how much it's going to cost to maintain that great Ferrari deal that you found...you can't afford it.

Don't.  I don't have much respect for a Valkyrie owner that would part out a running Valkyrie.    Angry

Well I wouldn't part my bikes out Carl, it was just curiosity to find out what they might offer for one.  Other than wrecks, I can't see them offering what a good bike will sell for whole. I doubt it's even close.
