Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

« on: February 25, 2019, 06:36:12 AM »

The milestones keep coming! After a joyous evening ‘serenade’ of natural ‘organ music’, I retired and slept rather well… only in spurts, though, as I still wasn’t willing to risk lying down in the bed yet… I still needed some time to adjust to life with a tube hanging out of my thing that included a bag partially filled with an unsavory looking liquid collecting inside on the other end… It may sound simple enough, but…

It was one thing in the hospital with nurses and other pros nearby, but when I’m on my own, I don’t like to take huge risks with serious consequences for failure should an oversight or boo-boo occur… Thought of the soggy mess alone is a serious deterrent, but combine that with the realization that DIY clean-up must follow… well… And, that’s not to even mention the unsanitary aspects of such a calamity! Bottom line, I was just too squeamish at the time to get into a horizontal position under those circumstances; so, a recliner nap was my chosen antidote for fatigue and drowsiness…

The following morning, yesterday, I again felt some irregular activity in my lower tummy region… Yep, the music played on! Sounded rather nice, and very soothing, too, as I reveled in the significance of it all. At some point, however, the thought occurred to me that the next one about to break into the open… might not be one that should be trusted! I found my way, managing to avoid any ill-effects of bag and tube maneuverings, to the throne, and lo and behold! Indeed! The next eagerly anticipated milestone arrived amid much fanfare!!! Oh, what a relief it was!!!

The biggest surprise of all these recent developments has been my lack of appetite! I’d thought I would be ravenously hungry for some meat of almost any type… I wasn’t. Nope, I nibbled on this and that throughout the day, but the only things of any substance I actually consumed were some biscuits & gravy for brunch. I guess I’m just risk averse when it comes to what’s going with me… Any setback might restart the clock on recovery, and I just do not want to deal with all of this any longer than I absolutely have to, even if it means more ‘gratification deferment’ for a while… But, that was then, and this is now…

Last evening I took yet another giant step… I decided to finally sleep in the bed! I thought it all over at length, settling upon two or three possible body positions and bag arrangements, then experimented a bit. It came to me pretty early-on which combination would be selected, and once that was carefully facilitated… I closed my eyes.

Counting sheep has never really worked for this too-long-absent road warrior, so I immediately switched to a suitable alternative… Animated caricatures of bacon strips! I must have dropped right-off to sleep, as I then found myself chasing those lovely creatures as they hopped over that fence! WOW! They sure were fast, too. I never caught a single one, but…

Once I awoke following a fabulous night’s repose of nearly seven uninterrupted, blissful, restorative hours of deep slumber, I realized what had happened… It occurred to me that as accommodating as Mural and Jerry have been, I’d be willing to wager a modest sum I could request… and receive… some bacon this morning!!! Now, wouldn’t that be a dream come true…?

P.S. As I prepare this for posting, the incredibly wonderful aroma of bacon simmering in the frying pan permeates the air! I need to be very careful here… ‘arousal’ might be a little ticklish, when that ‘tube’ is factored into the equation… I do so love that stuff…

It's good to know the vapor separator is functioning as designed ( I really hate when that fails ).  Keep the milestones coming and soon it will be mileposts.

The doctor did warn you about the uncomfortable results of arrousal with that catheter in place.  Maybe you should just leave the bacon to me, I’ll eat it for you.  That way the arrousal won’t be so strong.

Well, this sure has been an unusual experience. Not one I'd have chosen, of course, but if it were unavoidable, this has been about as good as it could be. I had my fill of biscuits & gravy plus nearly half a pound of bacon myself this morning... Hate to make a pig of myself; but, like they say, "You are what you eat!" Mural and Jerry just smile and remind me to make myself at home... and I do!

So far my vapor separator valve has performed flawlessly, and for that I'm mighty grateful. I'm drying a load of laundry as I write this... sure hope I don't have to run another load through anytime soon! Messy business, this urinary tract surgery and recovery undertakings, and having my bowels 'go to sleep' then require waking up again... well, that holds all sorts of fearful possibilities!

Oh well, all of this is part of the life I have chosen, too, so I'm just making the most of it and really enjoying all the good things that come my way... Like Nickel said, "Here's to dreams not turning into nightmares!"

I've been pondering again... All of the phone calls, text messages, PMs, and post replies sure have a way of lifting spirits, and mine are up in the stratosphere someplace! Thanks, everyone, for all the nice and most encouraging comments you've made... Hard for this 'loner' to grapple with the realization that I am so blessed with so many friends and acquaintances, and that I have such an effective and broad 'support group'! Y'all are really something... and, I sincerely appreciate everything!!!
