So many colors to choose from yet so few stand out

Covington, TN

« on: March 03, 2019, 04:17:58 PM »

I just finished reading the first installment, an excellent read and a well written book, I highly recommend it. It was hard to put down when other priorities had to be addressed.   I can easily see this book's story as what could happen in this country if we don't take the right path.

As I said, I highly recommend it.

One Nation - Indivisible

When Aaron left one cool April morning to start planting corn on his Oklahoma farm, he had no idea that before the day was over he’d be recruited by his best friend to work with a group to have most of the central states break away from the United States of America. Set in the near future of an unraveling economy, a White House controlled by foreign influences, and an impotent Congress, a small but powerful group plans the secession of the central part of the United States. Realizing the coming collapse is unavoidable, Aaron joins the group risking, as the original founding fathers did before them, their Lives, Fortunes, and Sacred Honor.

The closest description I can provide is, if you like Tom Clancy’s novels, you should enjoy this.

A bit off your original post but a very interesting background into who runs California and what Obama did turning the internet control over to a private company.

Gavin,

Sorry, not yet.
This is not likely a book or scenario a Liberal Hollywood will produce unless they changed the ending.

Maybe an audio book would be more realistic. I use to read a bunch, now I have converted to just looking at pictures. My kids get mad when I read to them because I just look at the pictures and make my own story. It is usually more interesting.

"One Nation - Indivisible" is more of a framework, an unfinished concept like a "green deal", not something to actually believe in, right?  Wink

That's what the ISIS fighters say, also. The Pledge didn't originally include the "under God" and it shouldn't now. The Pledge was about one stating allegiance to their country, not a religion or lack of one. Many very good non-Christian citizens live among us, it's stupid to demand they include someone else's deity(s) in a pledge of allegiance and duty to their country. That's a major tenant of the separation of church and state, and the original pledge was butchered to "teach those godless commies a lesson-ish" during the cold war.

Another view. They say there are no atheists in fox holes. The nation had just gone through WW11 and a lot of people were on their knees for years. Did we ever consider that an American victory was not a guarantee? Every time there is a national tragedy like a 9-11 no one speaks up about turning to God for comfort, but let some time pass and we get back to separation of church and state. It’s still on our money but no one I know refuses to possess it or spend it. For or me God is not a deity.

What does praying to God (or gods) have to do with pledging allegiance to one's country? Likewise, the concept of substituting a religion for a countries laws? The middle east has been screwed up forever by devout rulers and followers. It only works when one agrees with the particular religion in power at the time. THAT is why the founding fathers of this great country were rightfully against rule by religion. I would never swap the Constitution with any religious book.

I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

Truthfully, winter time audio books have become my go to when it comes to books.  Finding time at home to actually sit down and read is nearly impossible and not as much fun now that I can't do it without glasses. However, driving the cage to work in the winter is far less boring with a good audiobook. Driving a cage is wasted time/life otherwise so it works out well.

I'm not sure how/why you meant that? I have much respect for you, so please know I'm not asking the following for sport or anything. Do you feel that "So help me God" mean any person's name for a higher being, or do only Christians truly take the oath and become "real" members of the service? So help me Yahweh, So help me Ancestors, Jehovah, Great Spirit, Allah, etc. are what? I guess what I mean is that you kind of make my point on questioning tying religion (i.e. ONE specific religion to) being loyal to one's country and/or armed forces.
