I think kids need all the exercise they can get on regular bicycles, however for a beginner off road bike how about these:

And my 6 Y.O. Grandaughter's Custom Painted/Decaled Kuberg...my son can't wait 'til the weather gets warm for her first ride on it:

HD has to change it up to attract YOUNGER buyers, but under age 10, not so sure that is a worthwhile and profitable adventure.  You can tell by their lineup and future lineup, they are making HD's less big and more mid-sized 700-900cc bikes and more affordable as well which they have to do to survive.  Not many over age 60 cyclists will be around much longer with more disposable income to buy their overpriced air cooled and underpowered big machines buying into their kool-aid.  I know of a few in their late 40s, early 50s buying their kool-aid, but most are over age 60.

Another marketing ploy.

If HD can get those kid’s parents into the show room, they have an opportunity to sell an HD..

There's nothing wrong with pedals. Our kids in America are too fat as it is. I pedaled My Schwinn little bike that I turned into a BMX bike before BMX was invented up and down the hills in SoCal.  That got me in shape for the military..

Instead of riding till the sun goes down they will spend their time waiting for that battery to charge while eating Twinkies.

Glad Harley's doing it, sad Honda isn't.

Hang in there, it won't be long, Honda is probably already testing prototypes. I fully agree that kids need pedal bikes primarily, but for family trail riding these bikes are a good start for the 4-10 YO. kids. Very light weight inspiring confidence in learning to ride. The Kuberg in the earlier picture is good for about 2 hours riding time between 2.5 hour charges...plenty of seat time for little kids.
Grandson #1 started riding at 4 and took to it pretty fast on an Oset 12.5" starter bike. He is 7 now and more than ready to step up to a gas bike. BTW...the kids need to be suited up properly IMHO.
