With 3 bikes you would imagine it would not be so difficult to ride, but the bmw battery (new one) died and the battery in the bike I got from NJ wont hold a charge and since it is more than a month in the unheated garage since the last ride my Valk also would not start After a couple of hours on the charger I crossed my fingers, disconnected the pigtail connector and first blip she started YAY ! Took a ride up 9A to Peekskill to further charge the battery and enjoy some timeless time on the bike Thankfully I missed almost all the potholes and salty deposits. No other lunatics were observed on 2 wheels It is 48 clear sunny and low breeze along the river but tomorrow is more rain and maybe snow. Get it while you can eh? Here is what you see looking west from the little park next to the Peekskill NY train station I know this was not much in the way of a ride report but it is the best I could do today. Hopefully some of our southern and western brothers are getting more riding done

We're getting high 60's tomorrow, but rain most of the day. This winter we've had some nice warm days, but all rain, or right after snow, ice, mud and salt all over. If you'd stick small Battery Tender Jr's on those bikes (pigtails to battery), your batteries would always be charged, would last longer, and the total cost of electric for the year would be around $12, maybe. This becomes even a better plan when you have multiple bikes. Not counting peace of mind, with extended battery life (years, not months) they literally pay for themselves. https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-021-0123-Junior-Charger/dp/B000CITK8S/ref=asc_df_B000CITK8S/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198093653755&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4734314531009239637&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9008188&hvtargid=pla-370669784302&psc=1

+1, echoing Jess. Since I started keeping Battery Tenders on my bike batteries - I get 5-6 years or more out of them before needing replacement.

It is a mix of rain and nice days here... I haven't been riding, I have been doing Valkyrie-related carpentry... My Valkyrie's shed has always been wide open... the fence keeps the dog out, she'll carry away stuff... At least I love the dog, squirrels go in there too and mess up stuff and leave filth... So I got some screen doors and plugged all the other places that critters could get in. And also, since we have some oak and hickory trees that are cut down, I've been splitting some wood... don't have a wood stove yet, but I hate to see the wood go to waste. There's no need to split it without a place to put it, so I built a shed onto the shed... -Mike

I couldn't resist the other day. 18 degrees and sunny. Did not put on a lot of miles , but wind therapy beats the cold.

Thankfully I missed almost all the potholes and salty deposits. That's ain't happening up here. Seems like all the highway depts around are in a competition on who can spread the most salt. Rain, then freeze, is causing major pothole damage. Color me jealous Evan.

I got the BMW advanced charging station (1.25amp) https://www.bmwblog.com/2014/03/03/bmw-advanced-battery-charging-system/six or so years back. It has an adapter that plugs into the port on the police bike You may not be aware that our interstates have a constant (due to the clock) battery drain unless you disconnect the battery. I hate taking the battery off line as when I get the urge to ride, I just want to go already and ride after checking the tire pressures. As Joe pointed out, I am well aware of what happened to Paul and also remember the Detn8er losing his garage when the grandson ? 4x4 monster ride caught fire. They were both lucky nobody was hurt. The 1.25 amp the charger puts out is enough to fully top off a charge for a lead acid battery when you first buy it (overnight charge) and until the last couple of years I found my batteries lasted My first Valk battery lasted 7 years and the next one also about that long. These new batteries just are not made the same IMHO. I wont go to those new lithium ones as I dont trust them in cold weather. YMMV Bill I would not dare to take the Valk into the Bronx, those streets are all in terrible condition now due to frost and heave cycle and the holes are HUGE

OSS (Evan); A superior smart charger is the CTEK 3300. Check it out on Amazon.

Ask Britman what a battery tender got him ( hint ) it burned his house down along with his motorcycle.
I'm nearly certain that was a straight charger, with no auto or electronic shutoff/float mode (except maybe manual).
It is always a valid concern for sure Joe. But the electronic brain trickle chargers (BT Jr, C-Tec and others) have no reputation for failure or fire. They are fused, and the bike is fused, and my outlets are GFCI, and the main breaker is fused. But, it's true, mine are out in a detached shed, not an attached (to house) garage.
In over ten years of constant plug in on two bikes (when not riding) (and an electric start generator battery too), I've only lost one charger from age and use (and it just stopped working/charging, it didn't fail to shut off and overcharge) and never cooked a battery.

Charger in garage. Insurance fire investigator found the battery positive terminal in the fire debris. It looked like a small arc welder had been used on it. There were damaged areas on the inside the battery part of the terminal.

Wanted to get the Valk out of storage yesterday. Roads were covered with salt residue. Fortunately it rained last night and washed them off. I hope to get a ride in today. Im sure it will be short but, I know it will be sweet. Anxious to get it up on lift and get a few things done. Hubcap, I like your set up. Screen doors make me jealous. Won't see no screen doors in NE Ohio. My kids tree house is my wood protector. I think squirrels live up there now.

Hee hee... I guess there'd be a snow drift in there...
We've been here on electric-only HVAC for over 20 years, and the longest the power has been out is about 18 hours... this winter's almost over... maybe we'll get the front room ready for a wood stove before next winter...
