They're not paved all the way up, but I'd say 80% or so. I've been up four times on the bike, it's a great take. Coming down is a bit unnerving on the gravel spots.

I lost my brakes on my Goldwing coming down once. There are turnoffs every now and then, I was able to  get it stopped. A slight rise in pucker factor was observed.

If it's a clear day, the views are magnificent up, down and at the top. Check your weather forecast carefully. It's been 80 at the base and 30 at the top.

When were you planning to go?

What Bob said, great ride.
I rode up 4 years ago to see the sunrise, not much gravel at all, and it was hard packed from traffic.
Watch local weather and pick a clear day, worth it. I’ve been up 7 times on bikes, once it was so foggy at the summit, I could only see the bikes tail light infront of me. Other times an unlimited view.
Going up is easy, down, do use engine braking!

Turns out not what or where,
but who you ride with really matters

What baldo said about watching the weather  cooldude

The mountain has claimed many lives over the years, some by hypothermia in June.

The day I was there it was in the 90's at the base and in the 50's with a 20-30 mph wind at the top.

Every one in shorts and tshirts freezing their butt off.

There's some great riding in that area, but some of the secondary roads can use resurfacing.

Like Dan stated, the Kancamagus is a great ride.  Lincoln nh on one side, which is a town with good places for lunch and at the other end, Conway, North Conway, which has a crap load of factory outlet stores.

The "Knotch" is a good ride and you can see where "The man is the mountain" used to be.

I'm pretty sure about any car, maybe even a Harley, can make it to the top.

I made it up in 2015 among these farm cars with horse emblems on front.
