For myself fifteen March has often been the hopeful gateway to Spring but to some it has been otherwise.  What are some of the good and bad experiences associated with 15 March?

Not sure it applies but I just got slammed for $4,000.00 for a survey of my property where I expected the outside to be $2,500. I’m too old to be getting this kind of education Angry !

I hope you have a huge piece of land and you get a full topographical plan and a digital file of survey points for that.  What do you need a survey for?

Two days of 70 plus degrees here.  (first nice rides of the year)

But it's a trick, it will freeze again before real spring.

Selling my home and splitting off part of the acreage for a separate sale. I know I got slammed, just too much on my plate to keep all my ducks in a row.

Thanks Jess.  Its a strange feeling.  I've been continuously employed doing airplane stuff since I was a teenager.  This will be the first time I've taken more than two weeks off at a time since then.

Mixed bag, I guess... Sorry to read about Paul's loss... Happy to read about RP's major transition... As for yours truly, nothing specific comes to mind; however, the mere fact I'm writing this reply indicates I have at least fared better than ol' Julius did at the Forum... way back when... Proud to still be here!

Hmmm....March in Floriduh; that's when the leaves fall around here. Followed by the little wormy looking seed strings and the yellow pollen during all this(allergies for many). I had to hose off the bike last week before riding 'cuz even sitting in the garage it turns from black to an ugly shade of greenish yellow. All this from five large oak trees on our and the adjacent lot. When I hose off the car, the yellow literally runs off and into the gutter like mud from an ATV. As for temps, it has already hit 90 a couple times, it's currently 84 at near 3:00pm and will hit ~88. I hate to see near constant 90's(usually last half of April), once that starts it means the hot weather is here to stay until mid-October. At least I haven't been shoveling snow the last 3-4 months.  Wink

Well splurge, man.  Give yourself the rest of the year off.   Grin

I had this big list of things I wanted to get done (and the wife had her list for me, which I kept hiding).

So I attacked it like it all had to be done ASAP (as much had languished for a long time), but that was stupid.  I wore myself out.  But I soon settled down do doing half days (or shorter if it was hard work), and that was a happy medium.... some work, some screwing around and reading and learning to just relax.

It still took me a couple years to get used to it.

Now (9 years April 30) , I'm really used to it.  I wouldn't go back to work now, even if they paid me.   Grin

Spent all day on spring scape clean up (whipped).  But I screwed up.  The wind blew my heavy fiberglass ladder over on my wife's cherry Merc Marauder hot rod and put a small dent in it.  Crap.

I have all week to make up a story how a tree limb came down and did it..... from the side.   Evil

Yeah, spring has sprung.

Hit 60 today, saw my first robin and caught my first mouse.  Little rodent ba$tard.

Roads are still salt filled, so the fat lady dragons are still in hibernation mode.

Need a good road washing downpour.

Soon. Cool

Nobody stabbed me on the Senate steps, that's a positive. Flooding from ice dams jammed against bridges. The St Pat's parade will still go on tomorrow up by Vicki, but I'll be leaving the convertible at home and taking another car the 100 miles to it.

They have an old fire truck in the parade Vix & I can ride on and fling the beads & candy we normally do from the car, so it'll still be fun. Waste Management has donated some rolling garbage carts to push along the route for collecting donations for the flooding victims. Vix and/or I can take turns on one of those, also. She and her partner will be out thousands from flooded basements in some of their rentals, just like in 2008  :'(

After an arduous process, the first closing date on a house I'd wanted since high school was 25 years ago today.  We failed to close because the seller didn't or couldn't clear the liens against the title.  At dinner that night, my then girlfriend was less sympathetic than I needed at the moment, so I stood up mid-meal, kissed her on the cheek, and walked out.  First and last time I've ever done that!

About two years later, my realtor called me and said, "You'll never guess who just called me!  He said to call you and ask if I was still interested."  I said yes, but not at the same price, please send me a contract.  I filled it out and in the special provisions section added Final Offer.  Bought the house and saved a LOT of money.

March 15th was a Friday at work,  sure beats Monday thru Thursday.. coolsmiley

Also,  the flooding subsided some compared to Thursday as well as much less snow piles able to see grass again - both good news.

Next Saturday high of 60 for the first time but rain so no cycle ride yet - the bad news...  If it was not going to rain,  tempted to get on 2 wheels again since last November.

Won't say that spring has sprung here.   It has been in the mid-upper 50's for several days.  The 8" of snow that fell on us last Sunday has mostly gone from the yard.   I did slip out for great 160 mile ride after lunch yesterday.  For me, it was the longest ride this year.  Got back before the temps started falling to much.  So yeah it was a great March 15th for me.

I rode south of here into CA for a bit.  I was nice to see that the high country down there was still under snow.  Means more water for the coming summer.   Our high county in OR has 100% or more snow pack right now, due to the storms of Feb.  Should be a good summer for all of us.

March 15th brought the contractor to my home to access damaged to my home based on the severe weather we recently had.  Bad news day.  It seems I need a new roof but not due to wind damage.
I have suspected a problem since last fall but due to my “crash injuries “ was unable to address the issues.   Too late now, have water damage beneath the shingles.
No choice about it, have to rip off the shingles, repair the damage and re-roof.

The has simply not been a good year.

I got the T-shirt on that one Ron.  (maybe 15yrs ago)

Ended up replacing a fair number of plywood sheets, and new stacks/caps and gutters. (but small house)

But the Harry Homeowner discovery of the project was that my PO had three roofs (shingles), up there.

Dumb (and cheap) bastard.   (Not often, but I'd had tons of snow up there.)

(I've long suspected he mixed 3 gallons of white paint with water, to paint the whole interior.)

I keep the lights low, so it doesn't show so much.   Grin

just do the whole roof vs. piece jobing it.  Never know other wood underneath in other areas rotten out as well.  Some 10-12 years ago I helped my local roofer guy out saving near 500 bucks off labor helping him out just me and him and another guy doing roof in 2 whole days.  NOT fun, would not want to do it again anytime soon is a lot of hard work, especially me trying to keep up handing him shingle after shingle while the roofer nailed them in place.    My neighbor hired a few years ago a larger company similar sized house but had 10 mexicans on the roof (cheap labor) and got it done in 1 full day as well as my other neighbor.

Won’t even consider patching, will have the old roof torn off, damage repaired and new shingles put on.   Just wasn’t planning replacing a 11 year old roof yet.    This will put several future planned activities and purchases in jeopardy.   It is, what it is...
