I know lots of companies use standard size boxes for shipping but this is IRRESPONSIBLE. 6 spark plugs.

Dennis Kirk is the guilty company.

Came with 6 air filled cushions which will go to the land fill.

Have you ordered from Amazon lately?  Sometimes I get the same kind of issue there.  It's laziness on the part of the packers obviously.

I would send a picture of that to their corporate office, that is just wasteful. .I'm willing to bet it cost them a lot more than a post office box to ship.

That's totally rediculous that those valuable spark plugs were placed right at the side of the box instead of padded all around so impact to the box couldn't harm them.

I'll bet there is a lot of automation in this and perhaps that is the smallest box their system can handle.

You know, if that's the worst thing we have to complain about it's going to be a pretty good day.

that is nothing at all.  The company I use to work for last year I was responsible for receiving and putting away all their medical eqmt. supplies.  For example,  just one tubing that was sealed/sterile in a plastic baggie (sealed airtight) about the size of say a shirt folded up ships in ONE HUGE box about 3 x 4 feet big and then all that bubble wrap had to be tossed.  I filled up daily 2-3 huge rolling carts full of bubble wrap, so wasteful, daily, then having to move that rolling cart down the hallway into the outside HUGE dumpster.  Yah, it is insanely expensive medical eqmt., but what a total waste of bubble wrap.  Got so sick of that in a big hurry taking MORE time to throw all that bubble wrap away than receiving that ONE item into inventory and putting it away.  Some of those larger boxes full of product took 2 people to move around since although not super heavy, the sheer size was a 2 man job since my arms are not long enough to wrap around and toss the cardboard boxes around very well.

This doesn't look unusual to me.  I ordered a single ink cartridge last month and it was packed in a box about the same size.  I've also noticed that when I order a tire these days, it often arrives in a box.   They used to just slap a label on the tire and ship it without packaging.

I'm surprised that online shopping has somehow escaped the wrath of environmentalists.  It doesn't seem very green to have every little item wrapped in plastic and cardboard, delivered by a large truck.

It had seven hidden immigrants in it. You are responsible for them.

Huh. My tire deliveries have been getting more basic.

never heard or seen a cycle tire delivery come in a box.  My guess is someone there had a box laying around and was  a newbie in shipping and decided why not?  Let us know if this has happened more than just the one time.  The tire place you bought it from must really baby their tires and take care of them special?   Roll Eyes

I just got a set of tires from Chaparral Motorsports, and they not only came in a box, but they took the time to place cardboard around the inside of the tires to keep them from collapsing.

Oh they're flipping out. I've had some "overpackaged" stuff delivered lately, and some that was packaged
more sanely... At Amazon they sometimes send you and email to ask for you to rate the packaging... I got
a Ford 8n manifold from Amazon the other day, it was in a box that came in a shipping box twice the size of
the manifold box, and the space was filled with the plastic air bubbles. I popped the air bubbles and they
went down to nothing, and the boxes will go to the recycle bin... recycling seems to be kind of fizzling out,
even for cardboard and aluminum cans though...

I Know those boxes of sparklers would have fit in I believe the smaller flat rate box from The U S P S. I know at one time U P S had length-width-girth restrictions along with weight restrictions. I've picked up at some Amazon fulfillment centers and the folks-being polite here-looked a bit sketchy. Make of that what you will. But after moving furniture and packing out residents gitting the most into a given space Without Damage is an art. RIDE SAFE.

recycling seems to be kind of fizzling out,...

I've been reading a lot about that.  And the other day, a guy who owns a local trash hauling service told me he ends up dumping most of the recycled stuff he picks up in the landfill.  There just isn't a market for it.  Here's an NYT article about the shrinking recycling business:  https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/16/business/local-recycling-costs.html

I was in Charleston visiting a friend from first grade recently... until about six or eight years ago, he
was a manager of recycling in Charleston county. At that time they at least broke even and stuff
actually got recycled. Then Charleston hired "contractors" (RUN! RUN!  2funny ) to oversee it.
Now the old recycling building is in shambles, they're building a giant new one (it is just a
concrete pad with no work being done at this point) on the edge of town, and nine giant
trucks of garbage a day drive up to near Myrtle Beach ( $ $ ) to get rooted around in for
aluminum and seven or eight trucks a day come back to Charleston ( $ $ ) to be
dumped in the landfill...

Every box I recycle is another one I don't have to buy.  Same with packing stuff like foam fill and bubble pack.  Even so I still put lots of boxes in the garbage. The wife complains on the supply of boxes taking up my space in the packing room but then she uses them and doesn't help with buying shipping supplies so WTF and shut up.  Most small shipments I use Priority Mail boxes anyway which the USPO provides free and then ship PM which is faster for my customers so the saved boxes pile grows until I just have to toss some.  Exhaust system packaging is all new boxes made from cardboard sheet stock here and filled with almost all purchased rolls of bubble pack and foam fill.  At least I don't waste more space than needed to protect them from impacts.

If you're concerned about "green" packaging, use air popped popcorn for packing materials.
