(Yeah, this joke is so old some of our more seasoned members first read it etched in stone tablets in grade school, just figured a tiny spot of levity could be used around here.)

Jim decided to tie the knot with his long time girlfriend.

One evening, after the honeymoon, he was washing his Valkyrie. His wife was standing there watching him.

After a long period of silence she finally speaks, "Honey, I've been thinking, now that we're married I think it's time you quit riding. Maybe you should sell your Valkyrie."

Jim gets this horrified look on his face.

She says, "Darling, what's wrong?"

"There for a minute you were sounding like my ex-wife."

"Ex-wife!" she screams, "I didn't know you were married before!"

"I wasn't!"

Jim doesn't need to sell his Valk.

And if Jim takes out a $100-250K life insurance policy (with W as beneficiary), she may have a complete change of attitude about it.

But as Jim's attorney (and friend), once the policy is in effect, I would have to recommend he carefully check his tires and brakes before every ride.   Grin

The one and Only Mrs. Scooperhsd knew going in that I would never willing give up riding. A couple times I voiced some thoughts about it and she stated (correctly) that I would probably be buying a replacement for it soon after....

sheesh

My wife suggested I buy my first Valkyrie just listening to me describe the one I saw up at Americade in 2002.

That is a keeper, well both

She even loans her girlfriend to me when travelling to LA (but I sleep on the couch).

My wife jokes about it. Claims if she could stick a muffler up her butt and make a noise like a motorcycle she'd get a lot more attention. In reality, back around '02 when her Parkinson's disease reached the point she could no longer ride with me, she told me there was no reason for me to give up doing something I enjoyed. So, I was told I could keep our '92 Wing and matching trailer or trade for something else I wanted. That's when I started looking for a Valk.  cooldude

I met my wife at 16 I had a bike then as well she used to ride with me regularly.   Once she became pregnant with my first she stopped riding.  I continued to ride for years but it slowed down due to lack of  company.   My best friend was hit by a pickup truck while waiting to make a right turn this ended his riding career, took about a year but he did recover.  Then another good friend and riding buddy died on Kidney disease.  I only had one other riding friend who ODed want to jail then moved away.  My bike sat for several years before I sold it but at no time did my wife push me to do so!  Last year my former business partner who also moved away 10  plus years ago call and offered  me his bike for free I jumped at the opportunity.  I have since discovered i have several newer friends that ride and I'm thrilled to have a bike again so much so that I'm considering selling the Corvette just not enough time for so many hobbies.  Me wife has only been on this bike a couple of times but it sounds like she is looking forward to riding this year.
BTW both my kids are grown and out of the house so they no longer need us if something were to happen.

I am not saying the wife MADE ME (only suggested) back in 1997 sell my beloved 1984 honda magna, but kids were coming and I let it go too cheap (at the time) for only 1500 fairly well loaded with extras.  The 1st guy who looked at it and bought it attempted even lowering the price another 200 bucks since it did need a new rear tire ASAP but held firm at 1500 knowing I could get it.  The one and only time I wimpered a little seeing it go bye-bye down our road.   Cry

I bought a fishing boat instead (2nd hobby) and did that for 10 years on weekends when kids were even infants in baby carrier even brought them in the boat not able to walk yet under 1 year, with wife of course with to watch the baby while I fished.... Grin

Lost interest in that after kids age 8-10 or so and bought the Valkyrie in 2007 or so and still have it.  Now 10 or so years later still riding the cycles but soon both kids will be off to college and will see whether fishing or cycling gets in more activity.  If ONLY our cycles could tow a fishing boat I would be all set for both in one day!   Roll Eyes

Wife never complained about me buying the used 2001 Valkyrie although when I did buy that 250cc scooter in late November,   day before a snowstorm was coming and around 35 degrees out (BRRR riding it HOME 40 miles),   8 or so years ago she said why, I look stupid on it and will never use it.  I proved her wrong on that one as well riding that shorter trips more so than the Valkyrie every single year.   coolsmiley    I figure now the gas savings alone the past 10,000  miles or so I put on it vs. the truck mpg has saved me the cost alone of paying for that scooter.

I think she never said much about me buying that barn find Valkyrie (was VERY dusty and not ridden could tell for a few years)  for I every now and again brought up that I sure wished I still had that 1984 honda magna would still be running today and still could sell it for 1500 if need be not loosing a dime on it.   Hard to find a good running cycle for much under 2K nowadays in that 700cc on up range.

She has though put her foot down if I buy yet another cycle,  1 of the other bikes will have to go (probably the scooter)...   I agreed to that one reluctantly as well...... 2funny

I don't think I'd want to try launching that even if I did pull it to the boat ramp.
