Turn signals and brake light problem

During a ride I stared having problems with the rear lights on my 1997. When I activate the turn signals they are very deem, if they come on at all, and the brake light and L/P light flash on and off when the turn signals are activated. The taillight and brake light are both very deem without the turn signals activated but do work. The front headlight and turn signals work fine except the front turn signals flash fast when activated. Any help?

Did you check all the bulbs?  Also inspect the connector at the junction of the forward and aft rear fender sections. If all the bulbs are good and connections clean and tight it could be a grounding issue. Grounding in this situation is usually caused by a wire rubbing down to bare wire. Check everywhere wires are close to the frame or fenders.

If its been s long time and you come up empty with all that, I would replace all the bulbs just to insure they are not the problem.

Yep I checked all the bulbs and even replaced them just to make sure. I guess my next step is to check all the connector and wiring.

I had a similar problem last summer,  the problem was a loose connection on the rear fender harness, we removed the rear section of fender and tried to move each wire.... we found one that looked fine but was actually loose, we pushed it back  in and problem was solved....... unfortunately we did this after I replaced the flasher which didn't correct the problem..... oh well... live & learn..

Where is this flasher you replaced?

I could weather,  with the seat off I turn the left or right blinkers on.... I can hear what sounds like a relay Clicking fast.. then after awhile, like 20 min the blinkers work.
You say you replaced the flasher. Where is that located

under center cover ... from left cover if you have small hands and can get it loose from the center of rubber hold down parts.

Might be worth cleaning the turn signal switch contacts also. I recently had some issues, a little different from yours that were cleared up with a cleaning of the contacts.

Switch Cleaned and working properly.
The problem only exists when temps become 40 degrees or colder.
the colder it becomes the longer the blinkers take to function.
Functionality.....They work after everything becomes/gets warmed up

This relay that was mentioned earlier I believe replaced will solve the issue.

Being temperature related sure sounds like the switch. When you cleaned it, did you spray stuff inside or actually take it apart and clean the contacts while removing the stiff grease?

Dim lights, lights that are on when they shouldnt be are always signs of  poor grounding.  check the ground at the connector in the rear fender.

I had an issue with the right turn signal not working in cool weather.  I took a hair dryer and warmed the turn signal switch area to see whether it would help pinpoint the problem.  After the switch warmed up the turn signal worked as normal.  So I took the switch totally apart and cleaned all the contact surfaces and the switch worked perfectly afterward no matter how cold it got.

I  Reiterate, switch has been cleaned connections are good.
I can hear as well as my son the relay clicking rapidly at first until the blinkers start to work.  Then relay click slows to rhythm of the flashers.
New relay ordered and time will tell.
