A great quality video of a BA 747 takeoff. They're rapidly becoming scarce....

Don't think I've ever been on a 747 (Of if I have it was one of the ocean hops I made as a wee tot), most of my interesting flights have been on 777-300ERs...

One of the regrets I'll carry to my grave is that I never got to ride on Concorde. Hoping someday against better judgement we get another MACH2+ airliner, but not holding my breath.

Another interesting video I came across this morning, there was surely some high pucker factor involved here! (And don't call me Shirley)

The first time I flew in a 747 was Alaska-Portland in ‘77. The upper deck was a bar/ lounge area where we could stroll up and drink away. When we flew on them recently to London and back I didn’t even see the stairs. (They probably keep the rift raft out nowadays)

Never flew on a concorde (built a model of the pan am supersonic plane as a kid)
but did have one pass over me as I was driving my old mazda thru the JFK airport with my roof glass removed  It had a pop off sunroof.

That Concorde was L O U D and scared the caca out of me as I was not aware it was landing till I saw it dropping out of the sky

A Beautiful aircraft, but then to me the B52 is also a nice looking plane.

Awesome, thanks for posting.  What always amazed me with the 747 was that it has a higher cruise speed than any other airliner other than the Concorde.  It can get up to mach .92.  I rode a KLM 747 to Amsterdam the day that the first ground war started in Iraq.  I was the only person in business class.  Service was excellent.  Unfortunately, I came home the day the war ended and everybody who was scared to fly got over it and I ended up in the middle seat in the last row of a Northwest 747.  Based on my row number, I thought it was going to be aft of the rear pressure bulkhead.

Regarding Concorde, back in the 90's we had a joint engineering arrangement with BA and I was flying back and forth to their facility in Heathrow a lot.  On one trip, I finagled a ride on the Concorde and afterwards I spent some time in the maintenance hanger with it while they had it apart doing inspections.  As futuristic as it looks on the outside, when you go in the cockpit, its all steam gages - looks very fifties-ish, (which is understandable considering when it was designed) but still a very cool airplane.  It has a big digital readout on the forward bulkhead so that the passengers can see the altitude and airspeed during the flight.  On the flight I was on, we were cruising at 50,000 feet at 1100 knots (around mach 2). Left JFK in the late afternoon and was in London around 9:30 that night.

I was stationed in Hawaii in the AF  from 73-76. I had a part time job working for Canadian Pacific Air at Honolulu Intl. Had flight benefits and my wife and I flew from Hawaii to Orlando for about $5 each. On several flights we had 747's. On one particular flight there were only about 50 people on the whole plane. The flight attendants were so bored they were playing cards with us and pouring free champagne. Went up to the upper deck lounge several times. Never will forget that flight. The 747 is an awesome aircraft to fly on.

When we flew from Dulles to Honolulu, it was on the upper desk of an older 747 (TWA) . What a way to travel !!!!

In the early 80's I made several trips across the pond on Pan Am 747's.

Pan Am named their aircraft, once I flew on the one that went down in Lockerbie, Scotland.

In the early 80's I made several trips across the pond on TWA 747's.

TWA named their aircraft, once I flew on the one that went down in Lockerbie, Scotland.

My grandfather was the VP of marketing for TWA from the late 1940's through the late 1960's...

...our family was grateful he passed away before he could see what American Airlines did to his baby.

(Still bitter that American Airlines refused to honor one of the benefits my grandmother was supposed to have of a final flight to her burial place of choice, but meh)

Part of why I went to the Soviet Union right after high school, my dad grew up with a world pass, could get on just about any airplane on earth and fly for free or nearly free until his 25th birthday. So I started asking where he had NOT been, and the Soviet Union was at the top of the list, so that's where I wanted to go.

That is scary that Facebook could get baldo's picture and paste it in that meme that fast.

Unless I am horribly mis-informed, none of the aforementioned aircraft can maintain a hover.

Therefore, they are simply airborne buses.  Wink
