Contrary to popular belief(of my grandkids), I've never been a legend.....in my own mind at least. After 81 years if it hasn't happened by now.....  ;)

Happy belated birthday, John. I'm sorry I missed it.  Hope you had a great day.  One of the questions I get from my kids is "Did they have electricity back then?" and " Did you have TV back then?"  I just tell then that I don't know, I can't remember!   ;D

I hear that! When I was a kid back in the 40's, dad was the school superintendent so in town we had electricity but on the farm where we/I spent summers there was none. Phones were on the wall with a crank and ear piece on the side. The more "hi-tech" versions had a little lever you could flip which let the receiver hook come up far enough to hear so you could eavesdrop on the party line but no sound was picked up so nobody knew you were on. Knowing that kinda kept you a bit more honest in your dealings, unless you were young and were trying to prank someone. Most of my immediate relatives were on the same party line since all their farms were within a mile or so of each other. When my aunt first got electricity on the farm, she had her gas motor powered washing machine converted to an electric motor. I bought that motor from her and my uncle and I mounted it on my bicycle, thereby making it my first 2-wheeled motorized contraption that was actually mine, guess I was about 11-12 at the time. I learned to ride on a homebuilt motorscooter riding down gravel country roads....I do believe in Guardian Angels.  ;)  As for TV, unheard of until into the early 50's, we got our first one when I was in jr. high so was about 1950-51.
