haven't been active in a good while but came across this site and thought I'd share.
Many here had fathers, uncles, or even grandfathers who were there.
This June marks the 75th anniversary of D Day.
One of the most important days in history (in my opinion).

Here's a link to an organization that has big plans to celebrate

D-Day Squadron | Daks Over Normandy | 75th anniversary of D-Day, WWII

 http://ddaysquadron.org/

Take time to spend looking around the site and learn just what an incredible happening it was 75 years ago. That's before many here were born..
Also. if you like aircraft history, you'll learn a lot about the C-47 (DC-3).

...and if you ever get the chance be sure to pay a visit to the National D-Day memorial in Bedford, Virginia... Was a very powerful place...

Managed to take the elder spawn there during Inzane last year, and glad I was able to show it to her.

I’ll second that Serk, during InZane, A rider named Tom and I went to the memorial. Sorry, I don’t remember his last name or where he hailed from, but that’s what InZane is all about, right?
Both of us enjoyed it and were glad we went.

Above is the link to a yearly reenactment of D-Day. Held on the shores of Lake Erie in NE Ohio. Only an hour or so from my house.

I stopped at the memorial in Va. on my way home from IZ. Embarrassed to say, I did not know it was there. Saw the sign/advertisement on the road. Very glad I did!

My Father as well as a few Uncles were part of this invasion. Two did not make it and three including my Father came home.

I guess no one noticed that the flight of C 47s will retrace the route flown in the war.
And join with British and Canadian Dakotas to fly into France.
Pretty ambitious undertaking in 75 yr. old planes.

When we were recently in France I expected them to be the stereotypes that you hear about them. They were all pretty friendly to us Americans and their war memorials and museums definitely gave us our due.

I'm one who noticed. I've been watching a youtube channel in fact about the C 47 (DC3's). Mikey from the show "Ice Pilots" has a channel called Mikey McBryan and it's all about getting a DC3 flying by June 6th. They literally just started the hands on part of the project Sunday in Montreal Canada. I hope they get it going. They aren't trying to take it oversea's just getting it flying by D Day.

I've been so enjoying watching the channel I'm going to ride in the oldest flying DC3 in 10 days in S.Carolina.

These old DC-3's are suddenly worth more than ever as there is a company (Basler) buying them up and doing a new turbine engine refit. They plan the DC-3's will fly at least another 50 years.
