I would have never guessed the DA is a democrat.

well we can see how that works out..it is just unbelievable what the government/lawyers can come up with...their thought process is so deranged....I live in the eastern most suburb of Dallas and we hire the Sheriffs Dept for our police Dept...the pension fund for the Dallas police was decimated  by mismanagement and only the guys too far in have stayed leaving the city with a 1/2 strength dept. They are afraid to stop anyone in bad neighborhood and the traffic revenue has been cut in 1/2 which was a big cash  flow for the city. Most folks moving in go way up north to Frisco/Allen

Yeah, this latest insanity has made me re-think my 10 year plan to escape form Dallas County into more of a 5 year plan, but we'll see...

Would it still be valid if you stole <$749 of food, clothing etc from HIS house or is this only apply to retail stores?

Someone should rob his house everyday and see if it matters.

It's wrong.

But it's even more wrong to advertise it as policy.  It's one thing if you feel compelled to do it, but you don't announce it on the news (unless you are a complete idiot).

This sounds more like a DA-politician hard bargaining for more budget (to me).

Also, the picture in the article is of a violent assault or robbery, which is not a pure theft, which is what they are talking about.

I suppose if shop owners decide to use a ball bat in lieu of lawful prosecution, the DA will have a decision.

Well, heck, the ball bat was well under $749.   Grin

Some of the stuff I actually agree with (Basically decriminalizing marijuana possession for non-dealer amounts) but a lot of it is absolutely asinine.

If anyone's really curious, here's the full list of crimes that are no longer crimes in Dallas County:

https://www.dallascounty.org/Assets/uploads/docs/district-attorney/messages-from-da/Official-DACreuzotPoliciesLetter_April2019.pdf

IMHO the really nefarious part is, not only is he decriminalizing shoplifting, so you think okay, at least the store owners can put a tresspassing order on the person so they can't come back.

Nope... They won't prosecute criminal trespassing charges any longer either.

"I have instructed my intake prosecutors to dismiss all misdemeanor criminal trespass cases that do not involve a residence or physical intrusion into property. "

Oh, and going through the hassle of getting and maintaining a driver's license is optional now too!

"Prosecuting a person for driving while their license is suspended is often just prosecuting a person for being too poor to pay off their fines and fees. I have developed a diversion program that will result in charges being dismissed for defendants who clear their drivers’ licenses. "

I would then imagine that if I catch someone stealing I can subdue them with just a little
less than deadly force since law will not arrest the criminal even during the act.

I thought NY was bad.  Texas you should be ashamed.  Tongue

Can't you recall the DA??

Brian, is this money, manpower and workload driven, or is it socialist (and/or reelection) driven?

There is always a state run state-wide DA/Prosecuting attorney's organization (and a state attorney general).  This seems like malfeasance of office, and grounds for removal.

And I can't imagine the police like it much (or do they complicintly just let all this stuff slide too)?

Socialism/"There are too many POC in prison" driven.

The new Dallas county DA, Judge John Creuzot was a judge often known as "Let 'em go Creuzot" who ran on a platform of ending mass incarceration.

His campaign website: https://hardworkheartwork.com/home.html

The city of Dallas has long been lost to the communists, but the suburbs around Dallas that were not the city, but in the county had been able to fend off full insanity until recently. Most of the sane folks are fleeeing further and further out, letting the county go to ruin.

Even where I am has flipped, my state and national representatives both went from sane folks to hard left communists in this last election.

I'm starting to seriously re-think my plan to escape to the country but stay in Texas and might have to escape out of Texas if this continues. Wyoming looks promising, I just don't care for the winters there.

this gives a great breakdown of each state's tax burden. Kentucky and Nevada are top states to check out.

A little Dallas born, bred, and schooled first-hand perspective on the DA...

In the mid-90s, I served three months on a Dallas County Grand Jury.  Creuzot was the judge who impaneled us.  During voir dire, he explained to us that, as grand jurors, we were not there to "change the world" - our job was to marshal the limited resources of the court system.  He told us that, most criminals, by definition, are stupid, and if a case you believe to be true might not be provable and would result in an acquittal, our job was to no-bill.  The system would have another chance at them sooner or later.

Seemed a little soft at first, but I understood the rationale.  Sounds like he's gone too far now.

We experienced another hindrance to our effectiveness when, during the weekend between our swearing in and hearing our first cases, one of the 11 other grand jurors died.  There was no provision to impanel an alternate / new 12th juror, so we had to run with 11.  The problem was that we still needed 9 true-bills to indict.  That was made most difficult by some of the most racist displays I've ever seen in the form of a married lay minister (with a mistress and second family) who refused to indict ANYONE who shared his skin color, regardless of how serious the child abuse was.  Needless to say, our grand jury had the lowest true-bill percentage of the four that were running concurrently.

BTW, I have my eyes on Montana.  The winters in Billings are not bad, at all...
